I have seen many threads about this on other forums but not so many here in pre-pod.
I guess I am wondering if anyone has experienced, or heard of, pregnancy while going to podiatry school. If not actually having a baby while in school, what about just before pod school or during residency. Is it possible (meaning, has anyone done it - I know "anything is possible")?

Thanks

I believe there are two girls in my class at OCPM that are pregnant. Since they are pregnant, they are not allowed in the anatomy lab. Therefore, they are on the five year plan, which means they take anatomy in their second year. I don't know if this helps you, but I thought I would say something.

Yes, it does help. I'm not planning on anything but I guess I was wondering how friendly schools were to starting a family while still at school. I didn't expect anything so your comments do help. Thanks.

I'm not a women but I have recently had a baby boy. We have a person in my class that is prego.

I can speak for DMU, it is very family oriented. Ilzarob and Jonwill have kids,as do many students in the CPMS program.

Thanks. Yet another good thing about DMU. It is by far my first choice. I have already been accepted to Temple but I can't wait for my interview at DMU (this Friday).

It is nice to know it sounds more friendly to families. Thanks. I'll add that to a very long list of 'pros' for DMU.

Hey iam just curious, since u guys are students, do ur spouses work. I dont mean to sound bad. but isnt it like we are on loans and financially limited. Do u guys experience any financial hardships when u r raising a family compared to the people who are single. how do u guys manage that. My parents are forcing me to get married in next 2 yrs but iam not sure if this wud be a good idea bcoz of finances. So iam asking.

I have a wife, a four year old, a two year old, and one due in March. Finances are tight be we make it.

Your parents are forcing you to get married? This is America you know boss!

Dude we are indians, we just came 3 1/2 yrs back. They are not like forcing but they are pressurising me. Well my dad pays my tuition and my housing bill in Milwaukee and the same will happen when i come to Scholl. he is gonna pay all my expenses. So i have to obey what they say or else they gonna kick me out of their home. I dont wanna do that.

Like Jon said, with kids it can be tight. If you are just married, and your wife/fiancé can work then it is comfortable.

I am married with 2 kids and one coming in Dec. My wife does not work (personal choice). Sure, we wish we could have more money to spend but who doesnt feel that way regardless of how much you have. As long as you are smart and know how to budget, you will do fine.

So it seems like a lot of the men in pod school have kids, but not that many women. dns3110 mentioned that you cant do anatomy while pregnant. I do not want to do a 5 year plan...so for those of you who may know, for a woman in school, when would be the most 'convenient' time to start a family? I prefer to have my kids before I'm 30, and wasn't sure how residency and school are with having a family. THANKS!

I'm married and will have my first kid this april. I start pod school in aug 2007 being that I have been accepted to multiple schools. But I think that being married might help in Pod school if your wife is supportive and a married person has more on the line than a single person so failure is less of an option especially with kids. Of course, failure should never be an option. But married people have more reasons to succeed in my opinion. As for the wife working while im in school, I dont know yet since we are big at having us raise our kids instead of Daycare. it's a tough one because money will be tight but its possible if you have a plan. Frugality is the key word. Spend the money on your needs not wants. I think thats the key. So there's my 2 cents.

We had a student that was in lower limb anatomy while pregnant. I'm not sure about restrictions and trimesters but she was definatly prego.

Can those of you in school with kids tell me anything about your housing situation? I am considering a bunch of schools, but wondering what would be best for a guy with a wife and a 2 month old.

There are a few places in DM that offer income dependent housing. I bought a house b/c it is so affordable but that is me.
