Does anyone know how to find a list of which programs have started this new curriculum?

What is this?

FM-NICCE is a task force that developed a pilot program that is designed to change the family medicine curriculum in order to provide better continuity of care and emphasis on outpatient medicine despite the often rigorous inpatient component of many family medicine programs. They are piloting some different programs and experimenting with schedules, with the plan to publish results periodically. I believe they have already reported on the first year's progress.

To give you a little more detail on what this means practically, programs are experimenting with changes in resident schedules. For example, instead of a standard 4 wk block schedule, some are doing a 2x2 schedule where the ultimate goal is to have a dedicated 2 wk inpatient block without interruption in the service for outpatient clinic, combined with a 2 wk block that does incorporate outpatient clinic typically on a less hour-intensive rotation. In doing so, residents are in clinic more predictably at shorter intervals (at least every 2-3 weeks), so they can improve their own continuity with their patients and at the same time there are less interruptions in the inpatient service/rotations.

Its funny, I thought I only knew 2 of the programs, but after reviewing the list, I actually interviewed at 5 of them. That seems like a weird coincidence given that was all before the pilot program.

Thanks so much. I applied to a few of these not knowing they were participating. I think I might just attempt to submit a few more applications even though it's so late in the season
