What does it look like if you claim disadvantage but didn't qualify for FAP. My parents don't make any money but I made literally $1000 too much to qualify for FAP, but grew up dirt poor my whole life. I took a gap year and made a little money but didn't qualify. Would it hurt me checking disadvantaged or can you only check the box if you qualify for FAP?

You are disadvantaged as that goes up to age 18. FAP is basically last year.

There are people who qualify for both or neither or one and not the other.

If you think you're disadvantaged, then feel free to click disadvantaged. It's all self-report anyway just like ethnicity. Sorry about the FAP situation. Anyway you can appeal it? I had issues initially qualifying as well until I sent the administrators of the program a sincere e-mail detailing my situation growing up. It's worth it to appeal. It prevented me from going bankrupt or taking our loans this application cycle.

I didn't try to appeal, but was so incredibly shocked. I'm not working right now because I wanted to study for the mcat so this application cycle is gonna cost me an arm and a leg. I called and they just said I could wait and apply again next year lol. It's a little ridiculous IMO because I'm going to just have to use my credit cards to pay for this. I could try emailing them I guess, but I'm not expecting much

Yeah its just self reported so if you believe you truly were then check it.

Truthfully I had both and besides saving money on secondaries (huge plus), disadvantaged didn't really add anything to my application. It was never brought up in interviews or anything.

Ya, I would have really liked saving the money but whatever. I didn't think it would really help me, but I figured it couldn't hurt, right? My GPA is okay, mcat will probably be okay too based off my practice scores. Other than some research and a paper I got published I don't think I have anything too outstanding so I'm trying to get whatever advantage I can, even if it's super tiny.

I do believe that some schools consider disadvantaged applicants more so than other schools, considering they are competitive. Some schools even have post bacc programs specifically designed for disadvantaged applicants. Has anyone had any experience with these types of programs or know something about them?
