Polyps arise in the colon of a FAP pt around puberty. Why does it specifically take place around puberty ? Hormonal influence ?

My take on it: People with classic FAP have 1 mutated APC allele in every colonic cell. Thus if the remaining allele were to be inactivated in a single cell by a sporadic mutation or a deletion for example, they would go on to develop adenomatous polyps. There is a very high probability that inactivation (mutation, deletion) of the remaining allele in at least one of those cells occurs by puberty.
