Hello my fellow SDNers

I have noticed this semester after a long day of research, lectures and studying I feel mentally drained and slightly fatigued. When I get back to my room all I want to do is eat junk food and take a nap. This has never happened before just started occurring in the past few weeks. I will literally sit down on my desk to begin work but then my mind will astray and tell me to go seek more food! lmao 😛

Just wondering if this is normal and anyone experience something similar? I might just be being paranoid.

Yeah for sure, it sucks to be busy all day long and then have to come back and study/do homework. For me, it was important to take a break (food, chill, exercise, etc.) before starting work again, and then to take little breaks while studying (more food, more chillin') to keep from burning out. A good night's sleep definitely helps, or else you come back from class/lab and just collapse until morning. So take some (short) breaks and do fun things!

Or just drink a lot of coffee ..

When I get unusually lethargic, I look at my diet. Hard to go wrong with a multivitamin. 👍

Try mixing in some exercise. Hop on a stationary bike and go for a few miles. I bet you'll feel more energized afterwards

How much sleep are you getting a night? So you hit snooze in the morning? do you drink water throughout the day? Nonetheless, it's completely normal to be a little deflated after a long day. Just try to take a little break and get your mind off things for awhile. If you don't, any work you try to accomplish will be subpar. Also, use eating as a break time. I see many people working while they're trying to eat... Just doesn't work for me.

I agree with the above posters. After a long day of classes in college, I would also feel groggy and want to eat junk food. But instead, I would force myself to go to the gym. Now it is a habit and trust me, you feel great after!

This is not abnormal at all, especially for a premed or anyone with a tough major or difficult semester. You have to push through it and keep the end goal in mind while also staying healthy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Sometimes it helps to set goals like "I'm going to read 10 pages and then I can have a bit of junk food"...

Work out, watch some trash TV while eating trash food, then get back on the grind!

It sounds like you have a case of the "having **** to do".

Your brain can definitely get tired after being used for an extended period of time. Completely normal, but I wouldn't say eating "junk" food is the best way to remediate the fatigue. Watching some light TV or reading a magazine article is a good way to give your brain some softer stimuli. Drink something relaxing like tea and have some wholesome food like whole wheat bread or some fruit/juice. Putting a lot of refined sugar into your system will just make you feel worse, after a while.
