FAU Pros:
Small class size (64)
Personalized medical education
Integrated early clinical exposure (weekly preceptor starting 2nd semester M1)
Flexible work-life balance
Good research opportunities (there's a Scripps nearby)
strong match list
FAU Cons:
Newer program, so not as reputable
Doesn't have OBGYN Residency Home Program (I'm interested in OBGYN)
Doesn't have own hospital system
SSOM Pros:
Big emphasis on humanistic aspect of medicine
Older, more distinguished program
Strong Match list
Diverse student body
Lots of research opportunities as well
Has home OBGYN Residency program
SSOM Cons:
Bigger school (~170)
Jesuit Tradition --> SSOM hospitals don't offer abortions/limited contraceptive use (but can be learned outside of SSOM) so you can't learn about those during rotations
Anatomy is prosected
Both seem to have a great sense of community, are p/np, and have internal ranking. Ultimately, I'd like to return back to CA for residency.
Any advice would be helpful!!
