UIC vs FAU

Hello! Please help me decide between FAU and UIC 🙂

I don’t know how to compare the match lists from UIC and FAU. I won’t hear back about scholarships until after May 2. I’ve been to second look for both schools. I’m from the west coast with no family at either.

UIC
Notes: I talked with 4 students (2 M4). I can pick any campus. I’ve only seen Chicago. I’m more uncertain about the details of this school; it’s hard to get the information I’m looking for from them.
Pros

• Higher ranked
• Better research
• Cheaper housing ($1200)
• ~8 weeks off for step 1
• Can get 4 weeks off for step 2 (maybe even 8?)
• More opportunities to serve?

Cons

• Weather (but their buildings are connected)
• Doesn’t negotiate scholarships
• Crime (but they have NightRide)
• Students complained during Q&A
• Campus (older buildings)

FAU
Notes: I talked with 12 students (2 residents, 2 M4, 1 M3). I’m more certain about what I’m going into here.
Pros

• Location (Boca, right next to the beach)
• Every student was happy and had no* complaints/regrets
• More supportive faculty
• Small class size
• 4 year MD/MBA
• 5.5 weeks off for step 1
• Can get 4 weeks off for step 2
• Campus (newer buildings)

Cons

• Not a research institution (*but only 2 M1 student complained about research of 10)
• Expensive housing ($1500)
• Few opportunities to serve

Research and service are really important to me, but I’m leaning toward FAU.

In summary, FAU is happier and UIC is named better.

Feel free to ask me opinionated questions about the schools and I’ll answer from what I’ve gleaned during second look.

Neither housing prices I put are the official student housing, but they’re within reasonable walking distance to campus and where I’d likely live.
