For most things, like when testing, Pilot G-2 (0.38 for me). When I want to be semi-fancy, I like some of the Waterman ballpoint pens. I have a Parker Duofold, but I think some dried ink has clogged it up, so I haven't used it in a while.
Yeah Pilot! For general use, everyday pens, these have been by far the most reliable option I've found that aren't super expensive. Plus, you can usually get the 20-30 packs at Costco for pretty cheap.
I used to exclusively use the 0.5mm Pilot precise V5 retractable but now I'm a big fan of the 0.5mm Uniball vision elite.
I will say that I like that you can buy replacement ink for the Pilot though.
I tried using the Parker jotter for awhile during internship and found it way too tiny for my sasquatch hands.

Yep, exactly. I usually have to order mine from Amazon because it's tough to find the 0.38 locally, but I always keep an eye out.
I like the Pilot precise V5 as well, but in a pinch, prefer the G-2.
Also have to say I'm totally here for the pen discussion. Nerding out over office supplies is one of my favorite pastimes.
For my fellow VA employees, I think that the the IPV program pens (the purple ones) are the best!

This pen is the writing equivalent of riding the bus to get to work. It'll get me there, but I probably won't enjoy the process.

But much like bus fare, you don't have to think about it much if people steal it from you.
I used to use the general Bic ballpoint pens all the time at VA when I would have patients complete forms, or whatever else they'd buy us. And I often used them in some settings on inpatient units.
Now I'm fancy and have branded pens (that they keep sending me one-off samples of to try to convince me to buy even more), so I mostly let patients/clients use those.

Aside from the Pilot-G2, lemme run you the wild pick.
PaperMate Flair M felt tip pen. I've gotten flak for it, but no one can convince me otherwise.
PaperMate InkJoy Gel 0.7 is also nice.
These are great options foridle drawing when you should be doing progress notes working. And nothing else.

These are great options for
BIC Cristal Extra Smooths for me (sounds like I'm getting cigarettes at a gas station typing that out). Cheap, reliable and solid in hand feel.
I have never heard of them but they look amazing! Might have to try them..

I'll always be a sucker for the uniball vision elite - I dig the blue-black ink. Doesn't smear or get clogged up for lefties like some pens do (due to writing generally involving more "pushing" rather than "pulling" type movements, neat color, not terribly expensive if you lose one here and there. I do like a good fountain pen though if you're in the market for pricier pens
A good fountain pen doesn't have to be pricy. Sorry I had to jump in here. Since I'm European, I tend to stick to my old school habits of writing with fountain pens. My favorite ones are actually "roller" hybrids, like this one: Fountain pen/roller. I have two in case I lose one, but I try not to since I hate writing with anything else. They glide so easily and can fit a spare cartridge in it. I can write so fast with it, and the ink looks nice on paper. Sometimes if you drop it, the cartridge might move and you might get a little bit of ink on your hands, but it's nothing too bad and washes off easily. Maybe someone else on here will like it as well 🙂
The Cross Classic Century Satin Chrome is my pen of choice. It's not cheap, but I only lose one every few years or so. I actually get compliments on it and the ink has never leaked on me. Nice office + nice pen + nice clothes + nice psychologist = nice income $$$$

Those are a really nice looking pen. My first pediatrician kept a gold plated one on his office desk. He also drove a green jag. Classy fellow.
