My favourite block was probably musculoskeletal
Thoroughly enjoyed it, and wasnt too hard either

Absolutely hated derm.
and being from an economics undergrad also means biochem is a major no no for me!

Currently on our second week of our first neuro block, and while it seems hard (basal ganglia is the current bain of my existence), i actually quite enjoy it!!

What about everyone else?!

Favorite - The last trimester at PCOM which consists of Surgery, EM, Peds. I think it was my favorite because it was VERY clinically oriented and we were taught myriads of useful real-life, practical information

Hated - Neuro. The field and diseases are too vague, overlapping, and quite depressing

Hardest - CMBM which was a big conglomerate of Biochem, Basic Micro, Basic Pharm, Genetics, Molecular, Heme/Onc, and Basic Path condensed into mere 12 weeks with 5 exams...there was no breathing room during those 12 weeks because information just kept coming at you again and again and again

Hate psychiatry.

Currently in CNS Pathology - depressing how pathologist just talk about everything and everyone being dead all the time.

Enjoying neuro currently though.

most hated subject: human ass/balls

Favorite: Neuro/psych

Hated: cell physiology

Hardest: GI

Favorite: Neuro and Behavior

Hardest: Infectious Disease

Hated: GI

Favorite: Cardio

Hardest: Neuro

Hated: Biochem

Favorite: Renal and Cardio - felt like you actually needed to figure stuff out rather than simply memorize and they affect EVERYTHING

Hated: Anatomy - the ultimate in rote memorization with zero context; Neuro - "see that slightly less gray thing in this sea of gray", the more clinical it is the better... but neuroanatomy and tracts and all that stuff is simply the worst

Hardest: Biochem - no matter how many times I go over it it just won't stick! A whole bunch of random diseases clumped together and memorizing pathways just isn't happening; Microbiology - microbe names are insane, the disease can be very similar and on top of that you have to remember all these different lab tests to differentiate them...it's super interesting and relevant across the board but it's extremely dense and tough to get it all of it straight

Favorite: Lungs/Resp - Hemoglobin is definitely in the running for the most elegant protein ever.

Hated: embryology, metabolism

Hardest: metabolism, embryology

Favorite: Tie between Metabolism/biochem and Renal (actually have to figure stuff out)

Most hated: Embryology

Hardest: Infectious diseases/immunology

I want someone to compile the results 🙂. And also, I had forgotten how much I hated embryology until the subject was just mentioned. My mom keeps asking me why I hate it so much and the best I can come up with is "why am I learning a totally new terminology for little cartoons?"

(Cause our course was taught entirely in little embryo cartoons. I'd be curious to know if other people had a different experience).

So far:

Favorite subject/s: Surgery, Orthopedics and ENT

Least favorite subject/s: Hygiene/Epidemiology, Neuro, and Nuclear Medicine

Hardest: Dermatology and Infectious Diseases

least favorite - Heme/Onc
favorite - GI

Favorite: 1st Year-Neuroanatomy
2nd Year-Pathology

Hated It: 1st Year-Gross Anatomy
2nd Year-Microbiology

Favorite: Most of path. It felt applicable, and we were taught very well. I liked that I could memorize a basic pathogenesis and logically arrive at conclusions about symptoms and such on my own because it all made sense. I also like psych.

Least favorites: gross anatomy and neuroanatomy. To say that I'm not spatially inclined is the great understatement of the century, and it was just a bunch of rote memorization with some desperate attempts at keeping things clinically relevant thrown in. "Where is the lesion" remains the one question that makes my hair stand on end. Embryology, too. Most boring topic ever.

Hardest : neuroanatomy for reasons mentioned above. Antibiotics cause of how mind-numbingly boring it was to memorize what bugs they worked on.

Favorite so far: endocrine rotation in physiology
Hated: Biochemistry or cell biology... maybe it' s just the way they were taught.

Favorite: Pharm. Yes, really.

Hated: I passed up next year's anatomy elective even though it essentially amounts to a month off.

Hardest: Neuroanatomy. Holy ****ing ****.
