Hello,

I am trying to help out my girlfriend (who doesn't "believe in" forums and message boards). She will be taking the MCAT this summer and applying to med school next year.

Her father does not provide any financial help to the rest of the family. Additionally, her father is somewhat estranged from the family and refuses to fill out any sort of paperwork. From what my girlfriend tells me, this means it's impossible for her to fill out any paperwork for things like fee waivers during the application process.

This seems unbelievable to me. She is not well-off and would definitely qualify for at least a partial fee waiver. If anybody has any insight into this kind of thing, it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Thank you very much.

She is not a dependent for tax purposes, as she is over 24. The fee assistance program is what I am asking about specifically.

Contact AAMC. I have the same issue with my father and was able to only input my mother's information. She will need to have someone verify the situation, but the process is pretty simple.

As stated above, you’ll have to contact AAMC. My father wouldn’t fill out the paperwork either for his own reasons. I didn’t end up having any options though, and ended up having to pay out of pocket for two application cycles and two MCATs.

My father lives out of the country and I had to fill out some paperwork documenting why I could not provide his financial information (we don't speak very often). It was pretty simple from what I remember. I know hers is a different situation but it's definitely possible to get around unique circumstances like that. Definitely have her contact AAMC!
