What kind of feedback or "in closing" type statements are your interviewers giving you when you're wrapping up an interview?

I've gotten a few interviewers telling me things along the lines of "the admissions committee would be wise to accept you" or "I'm sure you'll have your choice of medical schools" and am wondering if this is a pleasantry they extend to anyone who doesn't totally botch the interview, or if this is a good sign that I can allow to get my hopes up. What have your experiences been?

I'd probably be more concerned if you DIDN'T receive a "nicety" at the end (and even then, not really that disconcerting). It has little to do w/ your chances, frankly, and more with the interviewer's demeanor. Your interviewer also has very little say in whether or not you are accepted beyond how well s/he is able to present you to the committee (which is largely of your own doing).

You cannot predict your success or failure in an interview, either from your own impressions or comments made by the interviewer. Best thing for your mental health is to not even try to predict which way each school's decision will go.

Two interviews so far.

1st Interview (lead to acceptance): Interviewer said nothing but "thank you, those are all the questions I have. Enjoy the rest of your day."

2nd Interview (no decision yet): Interviewers seemed to like me. They thanked me for my time and for giving them the opportunity to interview me and tell me about their school. Wished me luck and said that they thought I would be a good fit. I should include that the theme of the entire day was the school being grateful that the interviewees showed up and were considering them. Very good experience.

While it certainly is better than getting negative feedback, I would not read too much into their parting feedback. Myself and others have received very good feedback on some interviews, only to still be waitlisted. It's impossible to predict as the interview is still only part of your whole application.

Only siths deal in absolutes...

Unless this was a DO program, non-US MD, or an early acceptance/early decision program or you're a reapplicant who turned down a previous acceptance, I would have to call BS on this (seeing as it's still mid-Sept). Schools are not allowed [supposed] to make offers prior to mid-Oct. Has that rule suddenly changed this year or did a program just up and ignore the AAMC guidelines?

Check his MDApps and his recent posts. He was accepted to a DO school last week. 👍

Ah makes sense. That's what I was wondering. I looked quickly and saw 30+ MCAT and stopped reading. I didn't see the bottom with your acceptance. Congrats, man! Sorry about that.

No problem, lol! I was just getting ready to say that it was a DO school.

I was actually worried that my interviewers didn't really say anything at the end of my interview besides the generic "thanks for coming in, have a great rest of the day." People have been telling me that it's typical and not to worry, but the neurotic person I am, I am very worried by it, especially since the entire interview was so hard to read. They rarely gave any positive feedback, as they just nodded and took notes after everything I said.

My very first interviewer didn't even ask me if I had any questions. She just briefly looked up from her notepad, thanked me and asked me to close the door on my way out. Plus it was only 15 minutes... everything about it told me that I failed quite spectacularly.
