Well, it's almost 9 weeks away from graduation and I have to start studying for the MCATs, which I'll be taking on April 18th. I just feel overwhelmed by the course work from school and not sure what exactly to do.

Last week, I got a golden opportunity, my Dad said he doesn't want me to go to medical school, and rather expand on the business family (trucking transport business). However, I want to continue in my dad's foot steps and become a physician as well.

Do you guys ever want to give up, what do you do to get rid of the "disease?" 😳

I think discouragement is fairly common in this process (hope you don't have to go through the application process and get rejected, now that will give you some doubts). You just have to think about what you want for your life and if you could truly be happy doing anything else with the rest of your life. Don't "settle" for the family business, or anything else, if you know deep down you want to be a doctor. Though there is nothing wrong with going in a different direction if you know it's not what you want. It seems like tenacity is a very good quality to have when going through this. Good luck to you :luck:

You have some heavy decisions to make. It's great that you have options like that. Not everyone has something solid to fall back on.

The decision has to be yours, not your dad's. I expect that he will respect you, no matter what you decide.

Keep up with the studying & don't let this option distract you from that right now. I know it's a tough time of year, but nine weeks isn't very much longer to have to endure it. If you let the studying slide, the decision might wind up being made for you.

On a humorous note, think about this interview scenario.

"Have you thought about what you will do if you don't receive an acceptance?"

"Yes, I know exactly what I'll do; I'll go into trucking."

Your response will make you memorable.😀

I can see where your coming from. My father is self-employed and makes more than most physicians. He had always talked about me becoming the "successor" and then one day, I saw it hit him hard when I told him that I wanted to become a M.D.. But after a few months of me talking about it all the time, he really started to back me up and support my choice. It does put you in a hard spot when you feel torn between two things such as these. You must remember to do what you feel is the best for you and in the end, no matter what, he will be proud of you.

As far as graduation and your upcoming MCAT, get ready to start running hard now because when application time comes, you will be running your *** off doing AMCAS, secondaries, interviews... Take all the time you have now and study for the MCAT.

I was going crazy recently also with all this application stuff too. I had not even had an interview. Last week, I was feeling down when I recieved my first interview. Don't let all the stuff get you down. Remember that the "Foundation of Achievement is Intense Desire"

Good Luck!

You should give up then. After the negative things that ensue, you will be back on the ball.

Not the best reason to go to medical school . . .

There's a drug in confidence that shakes people up. Whatever it is you do to make you feel like the ***, do it. Play some high-energy music, go work-out, own your friends in ball, show some junior high kids the difference in age (don't do that, not cool). Make yourself believe you can run the gauntlet.
