Hi guys. I am an IMG and I m currently waiting for the results of the SF Match- didn't have many interviews, just 4, but I hope I'll match anyway! You never know...
I would like to ask if there is a thread here with information about Neurology fellowships-i.e. which are the most competitive ones, which are the best places to go for a particular fellowship, etc. I tried a search from Google but I couldn't find any information about rating best fellowships.
I am interested in neuromuscular diseases, although I haven't made up my mind yet-I guess it's too early for that... Do you know which neuromuscular/EMG programs are considered top choices for the residents? Apart from the very well known big names (MGH, Hopkins, etc)., I have heard of Washington University in St Louis, Mayo and some others. Could anybody help me with this?

I think the idea of a fellowship thread is a great one. How 'bout it GopherBrain?

I think the only problem would be that most of the traffic on this board is from people still in med school and therefore years away from thinking seriously or knowing much about fellowships.

My 2 cents on neuromuscular is:
You need to think carefully about what you are looking for. If what you really want is to learn how to be a better EMG-er for purposes of being in private practice, you can get that through just about any accredited one-year EMG/neurophysiology fellowship and it doesn't much matter if you go to a top-name program or not.
If you really want detailed, comprehensive training in the gamut of neuromuscular disease, your options are a bit more limited and you may be more interested in programs that offer or require a two-year fellowship (one year of basic neurophysiology and a second year specifically devoted to neuromuscular). As an example of this difference, go to the Mayo website and look at neurology fellowships; you will notice that they have both "Neurophysiology/EMG" and "Neuromuscular Disease" fellowships, which are NOT the same thing.
Aside from the "obvious choices" of the top programs like Mayo, UCSF, Columbia, MGH, and JHU, think about the following programs: Cleveland Clinic, Case Western, UAB, Iowa, Indiana, Rochester, Utah, Baylor, and Medical College of Georgia. All solid programs ranging from "very good" to "excellent" (at least in my opinion -- others are certainly welcome.).
