Good afternoon,

I will be applying to Cardiology and unfortunately don't have access to the sub-forum. I wanted to ask if it is a red flag if I do not have a letter from the Chief of Cardiology or a Cardiologist from my home program? I come from a community program without fellowship but have 3 cardiology attendings. I am weary that the chief cardiologist can write me a strong letter of recommendation. I am wondering if receiving my last letter of recommendation from the chair of Medicine if there aren't any red flags.

I planned the following LoR:

1 letter from PD,
2 letter from away Cardiology attending (1 research, 1 clinical),
1 letter from Medicine chair vs. Cardiology chief

Thank you

I really appreciate everyones help.

It's not a red flag. It's always best to get a LOR from the "person" who knows you the best. Alternatively, if you just want the Chief of Cardiology stamp on your LOR then offer to draft the letter and have them review, edit, and sign.
