Wanted to get opinions on programs in nyc. specifically strengths and weaknesses. How do they compare to other top tier programs (like duke, hopkins, mayo etc...)? does anyone know if any of the programs guarantees research funding for more than one year? any programs rising or falling in terms of quality?

appreciate any advice,

appreciate any advice,

All the academic cards programs in NYC are great.

Columbia is first rate in heart failure and interventional. Prestigious program and well regarded nationally. If you weren't aware of this before your interview day, they will remind you every half hour or so.

MSSM has a very busy cath lab and Valentin Fuster is very active in the fellow's education.

NYU struck me as very happy program.

Cornell is fine; very nice program director. NYC residents on interview trail pan it, but it seemed no worse than any of the others.

Einstein seems to have a strong clinical program, as well. Popular landing spot for a lot of NYC residents.

Any of these programs can set up a person for an academic cardiology career if that person is motivated. Columbia is the only one that in a certain sense is a peer to Hopkins and Duke, but again, at this level, all these programs are great.

When you interview at these programs, you'll realize that you'd be stoked to match at any.

thanks for the input. Does anyone know if NYU was adversely affected by Hurricane Sandy and closing down. I imagine they lost alot of money and patients to other institutions. Do any of the programs have guaranteed money for research like a training grant?
