Looks like the Internal Medicine colleagues have stepped up their game and launched a class action lawsuit against ABIM and the MOC.

Dr. Wes: Boarded to Death: Physicians Sue the ABIM

I'm hopeful in a favorable summary for them and it spreads to the other boards, too.

The ABPN's oral board exam, having been put to death a years ago was a step in the right direction but it was a clear symbol that this is a money-making organization that was employing a highly questionable method without strong evidenced-based data to support it led to higher quality psychiatrists.

The damned thing was an oral-board exam where patients were chosen in a manner that made quality-control hard. E.g. when I took my oral board exam the person refused to talk to me, willfully, and volitionally. He outright said it. Hardly fair when others were given very pleasant patients. IMHO if one were to do a board exam they should've hired actors with staged patient histories and then grade systematically kind of like is done during the physical exam tests in medical school. E.g. introduce yourself-1 point, interview was structured where the doctor was aware of all the DSM criteria of the disorder, 5 points, etc.

wow... i knew larry faulkner was being paid well, and take the position that executives should be paid well just as they are in areas outside medicine... but a $1.8 million is simply disgusting. they refused to issue the certificates in my name as i requested and shake down residents by making them pay up to $1500 extra in bogus late fees. it's not just MOC, these boards have gone too far. it's legalized extortion pure and simple.

My gut is telling me in a few years there will be no more moc, maybe it’s wishful thinking

MOC has been abolished, all CME events are now optional, and the ABPN and the employee pensions it supports are now more financially secure than ever.

I’m sure Larry Faulkner would miss his million dollar salary.
