As many of us are quickly approaching the next application cycle in June, I had a few questions about the final courses I should enroll in before I apply for dental school. My school is on the quarter system so we are starting spring quarter in April, and I have myself in a predicament.

I am debating between a science class that does nothing for me except boost my sGPA, and a writing class that fulfills a university requirement and does nothing for my sGPA. Potentially I could enroll in both, but that is giving me 19 units = the maximum anyone is allowed to enroll in per quarter.

Is it worth it to take the science class? It is only 4 units and probably wont significantly impact my sGPA, and the writing class would actually help me graduate on time (maybe even early). I am curious as to what you all think is the better idea. Thanks for the input.

graduate early with your required class. Fluff science classes are nice, but one class really won't raise up your gpa a consideration amount of points. Just keep your term gpa nice and high for the adcoms to see.

I agree... I would take the course that is required for graduation

I would recommend you take an upper level biology class (the heavy hitters are Biochem, Microbiology, Histology, and maybe Gross anatomy). I am only suggesting this because many dental schools are encouraging students to take some of these before enrollment.

Thanks all for your help. I think the choice is clear now!

Biochem, anatomy, and physiology are all requirements of my major (physiological science) so I've already taken them previously. Thanks for your help though, I really appreciate it.

oh and ps, your DAT study schedule saved my life this summer 🙂
