Hi guys,

I am trying to finalize my list of schools. I plan to apply to ~15 MD schools. Here are the highlights of my app.

Mid-tier state school
GPA: 3.96 MCAT 515 (94th%, best score in bio)
Research: ~1600 hours, ~ 2 years in an intensive research lab. No pubs, 1 poster. ISSUE: no letter from my PI do to the fact that she was a real b**** and everyone at my school knows that.
Volunteering:
~15oo volunteering on a 911 ambulance service. About 150 911 calls. I am a crew chief at this point (leadership)
-130 hours at a local hospital, monstly non-clinical, but very meaningful.
~30 hours cooking/serving at local homeless shelter.
Shadowing:
~40 hours (still trying to get to see a PCP, having a tough time)
Others:
-EMT class teaching assistant
-EMT for club sports at my school
Gap year:
I plan to work full time of a transfer ambulance and continue volunteering. Maybe phleb?
LOR's:
-4 letters, optimistic about all of them.

Sorry for all the details...

Here are my schools.

UMichigan
Pitt
Weill
Rochester
Dartmouth
Tufts
Miami
UVM
Wake
Loyola
Rush
Tulane
SLU
USF
Western Mich
Creighton
Rosy Frank

I need to cut 2-3 schools.

Any tips? Is this a realistic list?

Thank you VERY much in advance!

Consider deleting: W MI (very small class, stats mismatch), Dartmouth (not quirky enough), Chicago Med (stats mismatch).
Thanks for the tips.

Do you have any advice on "safety schools", I know that is not a thing, but that is why I included W. Mi and Chicago Med (lower stats)

In most states (not CA or MD...), your public school is a safety.
Applying to schools where your stats are at or above the 90th percentile does not work unless they can see a compelling reason that you might attend.

Thanks again!

Unfortunately, I live in a state without an in-state medical school, so that option does not exist for me.

What state are you from?

Aim high! I had very similar stats and went to the same undergrad and volunteered at the same place you do........ honestly aim high, and choose schools whose mission you fit and that have the programs you want!

Also, good luck!

Apply broadly

Remove Tufts, Loyola, Tulane, Western MI, and Rosalind Franklin.

Add Hofstra, Einstein, USC-Keck, Emory, Case, UVA, and maybe Duke.

Otherwise, looks good. Keep Dartmouth and UVM.
