Hi everyone! Just got my scores back from my 6/1 MCAT and wanted to see if this school list was reasonable. Here are some of my stats:
  • 3.77 cGPA, 3.63 sGPA at Harvard. Non-science concentrator, so I have fewer science courses than other people. Had mono my at the end of my freshman year and had to make up a bio final the next fall, and has been general upward trend since then.
  • 517 MCAT (130/129/128/130)
  • Ohio resident, URM
  • 60+ hours of clinical shadowing, mostly in cardiovascular care
  • Leadership in pioneering gender-neutral social org (related to Harvard sanctions on single gender orgs)
  • Summer research opportunities since summer of 2015 (one publication from summer of 2017, with 2 additional manuscripts in the works from that summer)
  • Student employment since fall 2017 and involvement in cultural and service ECs on campus
A strong point of mine is definitely writing, so I think my personal statement will help account for some of the lower points (i.e. GPA). I talk about my personal struggles with chronic illness, my parents being immigrants, and how that has generated an immense passion for helping others within me. Below is the school list I had:
  1. BU
  2. CWRU
  3. CC Lerner
  4. Columbia
  5. Duke
  6. Emory
  7. Harvard
  8. JHU
  9. NYU
  10. Northwestern
  11. Ohio State
  12. UPenn
  13. Stanford
  14. Tufts
  15. UCSF
  16. UChicago
  17. UMich
  18. Vanderbilt
  19. WashU
  20. Cornell
  21. Yale
  22. Mount Sinai
  23. Mayo Clinic
Is this overly ambitious? Or does it just depend on my handling of the secondary, interviews, etc.? If there are any schools I might be missing, I'd really appreciate suggestions. Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Which URM group do you belong to ? If Hispanic are you fluent in Spanish ? Do you have any clinical volunteering or employment with patient contact and how many hours ?

Parents are from Africa. Haven't had extensive clinical volunteering, but it's something I plan to do more in senior year now that my schedule clears up a bit.

The lack of clinical volunteering or employment will limit your chances for interviews. In view of this weakness in your EC's you should add your Ohio public schools- Toledo, NEOMED, Wright State as well as Cincinnati. You could also try these schools:
Rochester
Pittsburgh
USF Morsani
Hofstra
Einstein
Jefferson
Western Michigan
@Goro what is your opinion ?

Add Wayne State, U WV, U Miami

Thank you for the feedback. @Goro @Faha Would it be worth trying to incorporate some of that this summer? I'm doing research M-F 9-5, but weekends are completely open. However, I don't want to make it seem like I am simply checking a box; I've always wanted to volunteer in more of a clinical setting, and have interacted with patients during shadowing encounters pretty frequently. The volunteering just did not materialize as much.

I haven't really been able to term-time because of my academic schedule, term-time employment and other ECs. I would've done it this past semester, but there were some restrictions on being an observer and a volunteer at the same time.
