Actually, we all know that ranking is all subjective, and done by a few people who consider certain factors more important than others.
So… why don't YOU the SDN community rank the schools yourself, by choosing your top choice and consider the factors that are important to you?
Have fun.

Oh and yes, I know we change or minds a lot about our first choice school, but so does everybody. I think everything will come out in the wash.

Disclaimer: The poll is for entertaining use only, and life decisions should not be made based on this poll.

To make this thread more useful, please state why you voted for a particular school.

check out the AACOMAS guides to each school and make the decisions for yourself, like you said its all subjective

^x2

It's completely subjective. An applicant should do as much research as they can on their own, with these forums being a supplement, not doing the work for them.

Pointless. People need to select schools based upon a set of intelligent factors that are personally important to them. IE, location to family may come above a big name like KCOM or CCOM, etc. It's kind of amateur in my opinion to subject the schools to some sort of arbitrary ranking system and frankly, anyone who cares about it now will stop caring once school starts and they realize studying medicine at a school some would rank lower is just as absurdly hard as studying at the 'top ranked' DO school. The best type of thread, in the vein of ranking DO schools, would simply be a huge analysis of 3/4 year rotations.

by the far the most pointless thread on this forum...

it looks nsucom is winning the race, go nsucom!!!!

Wow western just took off over night... I'd never attend a med school where they scheduled me an interview before I even completed the secondary... They were pretty much begging me to go there. Something seems fishy in my book haha 👎

They invite people early based on stats alone. During interview they can find out if you're a jerk.

I'd like to add that NSU's Alvin Sherman Library has a delicious in-house deli on the first floor. Whoever is interviewing there in the coming months should ask to see it! I went to that library for the first time today and was really suprised to find it there.

Have you ever had David's cookie off of the dessert menu? I bet it's good! Dessert of the day probably sucks though.. Man I wish I could vote again for NSU

LoL, because of this thread I am going to NSU instead of KCOM.

You've got the right idea. Arbitrary ranking system in the premed forum. Me thinks there will be some inaccuracies.

To all of those saying how pointless this thread is... I have to tell you that you are being hypocritical. To some perception of the school means a lot (whether you agree it should or not is YOUR opinion). So lets just clarify this thread and suggest that you quantify your response to the best school. State which schools you were accepted to, which school you chose, then state what factors came into play in your decision to chose x over y.

Although these are all opinions and yes a bit subjective, these types of forums HELP some people that are on the fence. Maybe in your comments about the school you chose you mention certain things that another person hadn't even considered.

So for all of those doubters that just comment how pointless these types of threads are, either A contribute and help enlighten us what led you to chose a school over another or... DON'T COMMENT... You are being every bit as pointless as those you are criticizing. Now someone please take the soap box away from me.

oh yeah, GO NSU!

Better idea ... what schools are you considering??? People can then give you the direct input you are looking for without the sarcasm or scorn towards the arbitrary ranking system?? Also, you can do a search on the schools and come up with a hundred 'X COM vs Y COM'

I know that NSU is an amazing school, but I wonder how many votes it would get if it were not in South Florida.

NSU AZCOM

I chose NSU for several reasons. 1) Curriculum. I like the idea of an Osteo school actually practicing what they preach. Hence the 3 mo rural medicine rotation. Great opportunity to understand the roots of medicine. Having preceptors that you see everyother week is a great asset. You learn clinical skills as well as get a chance to get away from the classroom and start networking. I also like the idea that they split you up into medical societies in that you are with a group of MS1-MS4s and meet every other week and do case studies as well as talk about challenges. It is a unique idea that made NSU stand out above the other MD schools I have interviewed at.

2) Staff. Although I haven't taken a class I have heard from students that the teachers are great. I particularly like the Dean. He seems passionate about medicine and shares a lot of principles that I believe in. Dress Code and Attendence. Although they are a nag sometimes, they have their purposes. He talked about one day going to a class and listening to a lecutre on something that seemed irrelevant. Years later when sitting in the clinic with a patient that was in critical condition, he remembered that lecture and it saved the womans life. LESSON: although some lectures seem pointless, you never know what you may remember and how that random lecture may save someones life. After all, you can only learn so much in books. So go to class and invest time in being present for opportunities to save a patients life. The arguement he made for a dress code was simple. You are a professional... so act that way.

oh... and did i mention new facilities, broward general hospital, and white beaches?!?!

Quit whining.
hahaha

I wasn't whining, Simply stating... lets make this thread useful rather than "pointless"

And instead of searching old threads where the most recent update may be from last year... why not just put it here... obviously if 200+ people have commented then there is some interest in this thread...

If you took away the third year rotation sites I would rank it about average... the rotation sites are great... then the beach, and everything else makes it stand out from the pack... IMHO

I agree with that, exceptional rotation sites.

I would definitely pick NSU over AZCOM. NSU has a fantastic program down there. Really hard to complain. Established, connected to a big undergrad (rare for the DO world), nice rotations, some good residency programs, the Dean is awesome (haha, 'thyroid radiation' story was pretty insane too), really care about students, etc.

Good point. I wish I would have originally asked, why you voted for a particular school?

It's not a true poll unless we put our statistic course to use and employ some standard deviation and... oh wow... I just realized I barely learned anything in stats 🙄

We also need to medianize the range to consider outliers in the causation curve.

Why would you go to WVCOM over the other schools?

First off it is WVSOM and second it is an amazing school. the technology, facilities, and student friendly atmosphere are things that I truly treasure.

Also getting away from major distractions wouldnt be the worst thing for me...lol I should be studying for a final right now.

While I understand what you are trying to say and do, this is redundant. There are countless threads, from the school specific discussions to the Pros/Cons of your DO school thread that address this topic. I would suggest to the OP to do a bit of homework and work that search function first. Then maybe start a new thread or address specific issues to either current, past or prospective students afterward.

Rankings are subjective and the reasons why I choose a school shouldn't have a gross effect on your decision. Yes, the information may be universal but my motivations aren't and there is already plenty of information out there to address many of these "rankings" and the qualities that allow them to be assigned.

Just my $0.02.

I clicked on this threat and was mildly interested. Then I saw it was a poll and I LOL'd. Everyone is just going to vote for

A) The school they are going to

B) The location

C) Some other random fact.

I'm just giddy with how subjective the list is...

Andddddd apparently NSUCOM has lots of fans.
