Hey every one , first let me say sorry to all for not being my usual active self. between studying for the dental anatomy retake test and planning for my wedding and subsequently having to work 12 hour days at my cousins, Sicilian Italian restaurant, to make all this happen. I have been pretty inundated and very occupied .

So, do you wanna hear the good news or the bad news first ? Its the age old question.
Well, since I am an optimists and not a pessimist; I will give you the bad news first, because I feel the good news it worth more.

Bad news- I did not get the high 90's as I wanted to and studied for on my Dental anatomy retake.

Good news is , for the first time in my life I have succeeded in something that has helped me get over my fears of success and helped me get over my self sabotaged mentality.

In other words I passed !!!! I got and 83 so I have an overall of 81

Finally, with this overall passing grade I am so very proud of myself. It has been a long journey. I have learned so much about myself and for this I thank my God for all he has done for me. Most of you know me from here on SDN, but do not know me personally . My story probably, like a lot of you, is an amazing story filled with triumph over struggle. For me though , there is a reason why I am an American who went abroad . I was the last person you could imagine to become a doctor, I was involved in a tough way of life, a street life if you will. Filled with tough people and a tough way to survive daily. I knew that because I came from a better way of life and morals that it was not for me . I was built to help others and that is what I do best.

First of all I am not your typical intelligent person who can sit and read and wa-la, I know the material. I was diagnosed with dyslexia and a comprehensive learning disability at a young age , I learned that if I were to succeed in something of this magnitude that I would have to work hard and re-read and re-write things a 1000 times just to get it done to understand it. But never the less I finally have won and triumphed over this by passing part 1 . What a feeling. Thank you all for your support.

Now I know what most of you are saying , especially when the majority of you are getting 90 or better, that boy , an 81 is a very low score he should take it over. Well as much as I agree with you all , I choose to put my faith in my God who has already done the impossible which is to say he saved me from a life that would have lead me down the wrong path. He put me in a country where I did not speak the language and the entire university program was in Spanish, a language that I did not know and after 5 years, two years medicine and tree years dentistry, I finished my career there with a B- and was one of the most influential students ever to be in the dental program in the history of the program. I was awarded for this, two years in a row. So as you can see that regardless of me knowing what some of you are thinking and probably are right , I have chosen to go forward with my career and take part two and apply to every program regardless of type and location and just get in the system. I know once I am in the system the change will happen that will lead me to the career set forth before me. I am in dentistry to help others and lets face it, they need people like us to take the pay cuts work for less money and more for self reward. This, I feel is my calling and I know that when I start to interview and someone who reads my application and reads my personal bio profile sees the type of person and doctor I am, will put their faith in me and I will get in somewhere.

So once again I would like to thank all of you for your support . I look forward to posting and replying with you when I can . Please understand between work and my wedding in July that I am not neglecting SDN but just trying to get my priorities settled .

I pray for all of you , thanks again and may God Bless you all. - FIXENSMILES01 👍 👍 👍

Hey Bill,
It is evident from all that you have posted so far that you are not the "typical SDNer". So it does not matter that you do not have a score in the 90s.From whatever little I have read about you I feel that you are a special person and I am sure the adcom will look at you that way and appreciate you for you for your achievements.
Good luck for your future and congratulations once again both on your engagement and your score!!

Huge congratulations to you, buddy. 👍 I'm very proud of you and your accomplishments. It's your persistent motivation, your positive attitude and your strong desire to help others that matter the most and not just some crazy number score. I'm sure the adcoms will see these great qualities in you one day. It is these personal qualities that would make one a great, and caring dentist in the end. All the very best of luck with your admission. I'm sure God will guide you to the right path and school. :luck: 😀

you deserve to be very proud of yourself.your score of 81 is an equal match to any other high score, considering where you are coming from.good luck in all your future endevours.

Hello Fixnsmiles,

First of all please accept my heartiest congratulations on your achievement and also my good wishes for your big day in july. 🙂

I was totally moved after I read your post. You have faced struggle, obstacles and hurdles of all kinds. What is the best part is that you came through all of it so far with hard work, optimisim, faith and hope. Dont let that spirit of yours ever fade away 👍
You will go a long way in life and believe me you are already on the road to success. "To provide a better life to the people around and ourselves"....that is what success is to me friend. And you are doing great.
I am so inspired by your virtue of patience, hard work and optimism. I will pray to God to help you achieve all that you have worked for.
Who cares 81 is the best score or not. With all the difficulties you have had it is AWESOME. You have finally proved me wrong in thinking that 90% is luck and 10% is hard work. No buddy after listening to you and others who have had success stories to tell...I say Hard work definitely wins.
I was and still am a hard worker and give my best to anything from studies to relationships.....but most of the times have'nt got what I thought I really deserved. No regrets though, we learn from our let downs too....and you have reconfirmed me on that.
I feel an inner strength rekindled today after reading yr post.
Truly wish for a happy and successful life for you and your wife 🙂

Good luck and May God guide you through as He has untill today :luck:

congrats bill.........hard work and preserverance does pay in the end......
congrats for ur achievement and
all the best for ur future life!!!!

congrats on ur score and the wedding , u wud make a good dentist for sure , always with a ready to help attitude ! 👍

I don't know which you should worry about more, dental school or getting married ? Either way, you will be poor for a while ! So good luck with that !
Anyways, I just wanted to congratulate you for your passing part I, and if it is of any motivation, %81 did not stop me from getting into advanced standing DDS. Work and you shall succeed.
However, I don't know if I should be saying this, but I was not able to sympathize with your story at all. I don't know, that is just me. I don't want to sound mean or anything.
Every single one of us, here on the International Dentist SDN threads, has a different yet unique obstacle to overcome or struggle to put up with. I see yours as yet one more.
I give you as much credit as I do any of us passing part I or II of the boards. We are all just as hard working and as ambitious. You might be dyslexic, some one else may have a husband and 2 kids to feed and look after ... you know ... just look around you !
Good Luck !

Congratulations Fixensmiles!!!

You've done a great job...Yes everyone has their own problem, but each one is unique in its own way and could not be compared...You're simply great in that you could tell out the hurdles you faced so that its definitely motivating for others...I know a lot of people who just finds excuses like husband and children and not doing anything ...you are different...Keep up the good job... I'm sure you'll do great in life!!

felicitaciones mi amigo!!!
