Hi Guys. I am a freshman at the University of Dayton (no med school) and I will be majoring in finance and still taking my premed courses. Like many I do not see myself being the financial field, nonetheless I really enjoy Finance and its theories. I was wondering about my premed classes because my school requires me to take:

Concepts of Biology I & Lab-2 Classes in BIO 151 and 151L*
Concepts of Biology II & Lab-2 Classes in BIO 152* and 152L*
General Chemistry & Lab-2 Classes in CHM 123 and 123L
General Chemistry & Lab-2 Classes in CHM 124* and 124L
Quantitative Analysis & Lab-2 Classes in CHM 201* and 201L
Organic Chemistry & Lab-2 Classes in CHM 313* and 313L
Organic Chemistry & Lab-2 Classes in CHM 314* and 314L*
General Physics & labs- 2 Classes in PHY 201 and 202*

and the electives are (2 required)

General Genetics
Physiology I & Lab
General Microbiology & Lab
Cell Biology & Lab
Developmental Biology & Lab
Human Anatomy & Lab
Principles of Microscopy & Lab

Now my question is that out of the electives which do you recommend me taking and, can I take them at another state 4 year institution. And would it be better to take my Finance gen-eds at the same state school and fit my core premed classes in the schedule? If it helps, I want to be an Internist. Any other tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

I would take Anatomy, Physiology, Genetics, and Cell.

Okay thanks, and as far as taking them at another institution goest, what is your opinion on that?

So you are wanting to take gen ed requirements and pre med requirements at another university... for cost reasons? Shouldn't be a problem. Remember to keep that gpa up, especially in your science classes!

Take as many pre-med courses as you can - make this your provisional priority order

Cell Biology & Lab
General Genetics
Physiology I & Lab
Human Anatomy & Lab
General Microbiology & Lab
Developmental Biology & Lab
Principles of Microscopy & Lab

Thank you for the suggestions. Do you have any idea what I should expect being a Finance Major? Is there anyone here that is experienced in taking Premed and Finance together?

I did Biomedical Engineering and Economics, for what it's worth. I found almost every single econ class considerably easier than all premed classes, except maybe econometrics. Econ classes were basically the GPA repair/breathing room class for the rest of the schedule. Most theory classes are basically lots of graphs. Finance classes are formulas and plug-and-chug.

If you're comfortable at finance, it should be pretty straight forward balancing the classes. I don't see why you would take any classes at another institute, since you already started. One major (finance) and one track (premed), which is what most premeds do.

I would take Anatomy before Physiology. It'll be much easier and make more sense this way.

I didn't take either of these courses in undergrad, so I'll take your word for it. My list is a priority list of what I took/wish I had taken to help me now.

Do an interesting major that you can get a 4.0 in. Challenging majors don't matter to most adcoms.

I think anat and phys is a must espically for some background knowledge. I took both in High school and taking them again would be even more useful

I'm pretty sure i can pull off a 3.9-4.0 in Finance, i like the concepts of it.

Cool Beans, I will keep that in mind
