Story:
I want to go to medical school.

Went to an elite private university where I am in my 4th year and graduating in May. DUe to high financial need and this top university, I got a great aid package without any laons or anything.

Now, my GPA is 3.1 as I chose a very very hard major and was not pre-med smart.

I need to take 30 credits of biology hard-core classes before applying to med school to show that I can handle medical school with intelligence and hard work.

I am wondering that I should drop " a required class" so I wouldn't graduate technically this may. Then enroll in public university in my state in fall, qualified as a first-degree seeking students so I can get FAFSA as well as local state financial aid to cover the education. I will also take the required class for my major in state university so that my "elite" school can grant me that degree.

Is this a better plan i.e going for 1st undergrad degree than say going for a masters, which is not covered by FAFSA grant and rather loans?
I plan to enroll in a degree seeking program and take my 30 credits and leave! (please do not comment on the social or moral aspects here; just the financial aspects)?

How about living expenses, which are about 10K a year in my state? There is no loan for that and I would have to pay out of pocket and/or work?

Same question...

is it a good idea to not graduate, then enroll in school for another year to continue getting medical school pre-reqs if my loan eligibility/grant eligibility isn't maxed out yet?

I could graduate this May or delay it on purpose...

If delaying graduation so you may take courses to be considered for med school while maintaining maximum aid is your question, it would seem to make sense. Just be sure if you go this route, financial aid is available to you as a fifth year undergrad student. I would check with your financial aid department at your school as soon as possible. I do not think what you are asking is so nefarious. If aid is available, it would seem to make sense. I am not sure why, if you request aid for living expenses too, they would not be considered. It would seem irrelevant whether you are a fourth of fifth year student who is degree seeking. Rules regarding aid may vary school to school, so you need to check with the financial aid department where you are planning to complete your degree requirements and take additional science courses. The biggest concern you should have is doing well in these courses so that you get accepted to med school. I don't think it was a matter of your being pre-med smart as an undergrad, but more so pre-med ready. The study skills you need to do well need to be there from the get go. For many it is a lesson hard learned freshman year. Good Luck!
