I have to ask this:

do you have to apply for loans every year like in undergrad or do you get an estimate of how much you will get for the 4 years of med school? I may be getting married and I am wondering if I should hold off on the wedding so that I do not have to include my spouse's income for my financial aid package. Thanks.

So.....if you get married, then you totally get screwed on financial aid? Is that how it works? I am applying for 2005, and planning on getting married in October 2005. I won't have to say that I am married for the 1st year's FAFSA, but for subsequent ones, I will be. Does being married really decrease your financial aid that much? I would love to hear from anyone who is married and trying to get through med school. Thanks, and best of luck 2005 apps!

The only way my husband's salary affected my student loans is only being qualified to get unsubsidized verses subsidized. Although with my first year of med school I have been able to get $8600 subs even with his salary. So you getting married may not affect anything. It did make my EC much higher but that didn't change anything. I wouldn't worry about it unless your spouse is very very wealthy.

Thanks for the reply Amy B!
