How exactly do loans and things work during dental school. Will I definately be able to get enough loan money to pay for school and living expenses? Do the schools factor cost of living into the equation when they figure out loan packages? and what happens if the loan package that the school offers you is not enough to allow you to cover living expenses? Are there private loans available to help out as well?

Currently I have a little savings (a few thousand dollars) but that is about it and I don't think that my parents will be able to help out all that much. Am I going to be able to put myself through dental school in this current situation.

Is it just me or are there a lot of people in this same boat?

There are government loans that have no interest or a small one, but there is a limit to the amount you get, I believe it's about 18K a year (check that though). You get the government ones through your fafsa.

As for the rest, you cover that with privet loans from banks. You can take as much as needed to cover ALL your expenses, but remember that you will have to pay it all back with interest, so take out only what you need.

For more detailed info, I suggest calling the dental school that you are going/will be going to and talk to the financial aid office.
