Finanical Aide Before School Starts

Im planning out my summer before PT school starts and would like to get moved in and settled before school starts. With moving costs, first and last months, rent ect. Is there a way to get your financial aide money disbursed before school starts? (1-2 months before) Or would I have to get a private loan? Can I get a private loan and then pay it back immediately with my school loan? Do banks allow this?

I've been wondering the same exact thing. I found out from my program that they don't give us our refund check for our loans until the first day of class, so that puts a cramp in my plans, but I should have enough of my own money to make it work. I plan on moving up to Washington about 2-3 weeks before class starts.

Check with the financial aid department at your program and see what their policy is on when you get your refund check/direct deposit.

I spoke to the financial aid coordinator for my program and she said that the reason why they don't give the money early is: if you bail out after they've given you the money, it's a hassle for them to track you down. So to protect themselves, they wait until the 1st day of class to give you the money.

But the situation may not be the same for your program. Check with them and see.

I'm trying to figure out my budget as I have never lived on loans for all source of income. In undergrad, I had my parents to rely on but now I will have to budget accordingly because my loans is all I have.

At my university we don't receive our refund money until about 3-6 weeks into the semester... If you are living on campus, then your living costs would be covered within your tuition bill, but I am fairly certain that no school gives any money out early and especially not refund money. I would assume that those who are using loan money are using a grad-plus or private loan to pay before hand... but I don't know the answer. =/

Yeah, it totally blows, big time. Haha. They tell us we should get it within the first week, but both semesters so far I've gotten it about 3-4 weeks in and my one friend this semester didn't get it until 6 weeks in. Talk about stress, if you need the refund to help you out!!

For med school, I took out a private loan from my bank to help cover moving expenses, necessary books for the first couple of weeks or school, etc. I immediately payed it back as soon as I got my loan money.
