My apology if this isn't allowed here, or if I posted in the wrong place.

I'm currently only an undergrad student, but I'd like to do research. However, the professors and IRB members at my school are terrible to work with.

How can I find an IRB that would let me work with them, without becoming a student at their school? Can you suggest any specific ones?

Most IRBs are attached to a specific institution. They are charged with overseeing human subjects research being conducted at that institution. Independent IRBs exist, but they mainly cater to industry (pharma, device, etc.) and their fees reflect the clientele.

Dealing with IRBs can be a hurdle, but most people manage. If I take everything you say at face value, then the only feasible solution is to switch institutions. But realistically, the problem likely has something to do with the way you're approaching the situation.

If you run into an dingus in the morning, you ran into an dingus. If you run into dinguses all day, you're the dingus.

No ma'am, it's not my approach - mostly, they're just very unreliable.

They're very nice to me, and I am to them - but then they disappear and don't respond to reminder emails.

It reminds me of my church: I'll have a good conversation with someone via text, then in the middle of it - despite no offensive comments, he disappears (repeatedly, and never responds in the future). But when I see him at church, he'll talk to me for hours - longer than I want to chat.

The first IRB guy I contacted in April. It's been about 4 months since he has replied, and I sent two reminders.
The second guy said he'd call me last Thursday. Without any e-mails between when we scheduled and the time he was supposed to call that could have upset him, he didn't call - and hasn't responded to my reminder e-mail.

There's a lot of stuff like this... It's a low quality school. For example (of its quality), in just one class - I found 10-20 errors on the quizzes. The professor agreed with me in all but one case (Ironically, I told him that I gave the wrong answer. He said I gave the correct one), and he thanked me for pointing out the errors. I was ahead in my school work, so he was able to correct them before the other students got to the same incorrectly marked quiz answers.

That's A LOT of errors for one class! And most classes I've been in have errors, but about a third of the time - the teachers will completely ignore my e-mails, in which I quote the textbook, quote the quiz, and ask them to take a look.

Changing schools isn't an option. I'm disabled / low income, this is the only one I know of that I can afford with my pell grant. Thanks, though!
