has anyone found the time to do some volunteer work or shadowing while working full time?

for a while, it has been work + study for mcat, or work + work on apps, but since i am done with that, it has been work + relaxing!
i volunteered a bit while in college. now i work in a huge cancer hospital, and the funny thing is, you would think opportunities for that would be endless here. my work is in research, in a different bldg than the hospital itself, so i have no patient contact right now, except when i am in the cafeteria. i'll admit i have not looked into every option on what i could be doing here, but the prospect of coming here on weekends or staying late after work really suck, my commute is 1.5 hours and i get home late enough as it is...

if anyone has any experiences, pass them along!

thanks, and good luck

I have been really lucky with my full time jobs in that they have allowed me to volunteer at the same time Both "real" jobs I've had were very understanding when I wanted to leave early on Fridays and they both allowed me to take leave of absences for the summer.

I get to work early every-other monday and then leave at 4:30 to go volunteer at a children's residential facility until 8:30-- because I onlly do it every other week, it cuts down on late nights, but still lets me get in at least 8 hours per month at the facility, which is their minimum requirement for volunteers.

I volunteer from 5:30-8 every Thursday at the free clinic in my town. Its easy enough to do, but it does make for late suppers. And on weekends I occasionally volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.

i volunteer at a free clinic on saturday mornings. although i like the experience, i really hate having a saturday morning commitment. after full time work and night school all week, i would much rather just relax on the weekends. but whatever...

I volunteered at Children's Hospital while doing cancer research here at Penn. I volunteered after work every Monday 6-9pm - one night a week isn't too bad a commitment at all. And since it's a big program, they give you free dinner, so you don't even have to worry about going hungry. It's definitely possible!!
