Hey all-

I'll be graduating in May with my degree in Psychology with a concentration in Beh. Neuroscience, however, I do not meet the requirements to apply to Optometry school just yet. I still need orgo, micro bio, and bio chem. I've been working at a small optometry practice for almost 2 years now, and I know that I want to go to optometry school. My science gpa isn't the greatest, and I know that I'll need to take more science courses.

What are your thoughts of completing the rest of these requirements at a local community college, as well as more science courses? I know that it'll be at least a year until I can apply for optometry school because I need to take the OAT. I just don't know how the optometry school will look at me going from a University to completing these courses at a CC. It's just more economical at this point though.

Thanks!! 🙂 and good luck to you all!

Totally depends on the school that you want to go to. There are some schools that do not look at CC credits in a negative light at all. Some frown upon it a little. For the most part, they do not care though! Good luck

I've applied to NOVA and I have a couple of CC courses that I took early in my college career, so I'm not sure of their official view of them. SCCO encourages CC classes. As for the others, I'm not sure.

I went through the same thing and took actually most of my science classes at CC's and did well. I had no problem getting into SUNY and SCCO and maybe Berkeley? (I shall wait and hope). I know for sure that NECO frown on CC classes and SUNY doesn't like them either, however if you do well and have a good OAT score they will look past it

What about PCO(Salus) do they care about CC courses? Also is algebra based physics ok? or does it have to be calc based?
