I just finished my dat.

Compared to the canadian one I wrote in nov I'd say it's a bit better.

The score I received today was

Bio - 19
Gchem - 22
Ochem - 18 (not a strong point)
Pat - 22 (prob my best subject)
Rc - 22
Qr - 16 (ran out of time with the word problems ended up guessing some of them)
Sciences - 19
Aa - 19

My nov test had
Bio - 18
Chem - 19
Pat - 20
Rc - 22
Carving - 5 (lol I know)
Aa - 18
My gpa is 3.3 here in uwo. But there is an upward trend from second year to third year if that helps. My sgpa is also around 3.3

So what are my chances guys? I have over 600 hours in voluteering and about 30 hours shadowing currently. I'm still shadowing people so I'll obv have more if intervies come around.

average if you were US applicant, on the low side for international.

Your stats (both DAT and GPA) are in line with the average accepted USC and BU student. USC and BU are notorious for their high tuition though.

Don't worry about QR too much. Many schools are willing to forgive that section.

Good luck!

Your DAT scores aren't bad at all. Awesome reading comprehension score, that'll definitely help at some schools that emphasize that section. If you apply early, and apply smart, your chances of getting in are good. Your GPA and DAT scores are slightly below the average of ACCEPTED students, which although isn't the best news, it also isn't the worst either. If you tell us which schools you applied to, maybe myself or some other members could give you better insight to your question. Good luck!

Thanks so much guys.

I still haven't been able to get my application in yet.
I'm missing 1 thing - LOR from a dentist 🙁 Still trying to pry it out of him haha.

I'm applying to about 20 schools

Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine AZ 01/01/2012
Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health (AZ) AZ 12/01/2011
Loma Linda University (LLU) CA 12/01/2011
University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) CA 10/15/2011
University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry (UOP) CA 12/01/2011
Western University of Health Sciences (WESTU) CA 12/01/2011
University of Southern California Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry (USC) CA 02/01/2012
Howard University (HOW) DC 01/15/2012
Nova Southeastern University (NSU) FL 12/01/2011
Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-Illinois IL 01/01/2012
University of Illinois at Chicago (ILL) IL 12/01/2011
Indiana University (IND) IN 12/01/2011
Boston University Henry M Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BU) MA 12/01/2011

The Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, Temple University (TEMP) PA 01/15/2012
University of Pennsylvania (PENN) PA 12/15/2011

This is the list I copied and pasted from AADSAS (I know its a bit messy sorry).

If there is any more schools that you suggest please don't hesitate to do so.

You also need a letter from a spiritual leader for LLU.

Yes. I got mine from my religion instructor a few years ago, but if you are not religious like me, it's a waste of time and money.

I bought 2011 ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools and I have similar stats. Reading through the guide, I say don't waste your time and money on followings:

University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)
Howard University (HOW)
Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (CUL)
University of Pennsylvania (PENN)

Good Luck!!!

Oh really?
Could you tell me the schools that you've applied to?

I've said this 1000 times, but I'll say it again: there's so much more to an application than just the numbers. Ignoring everything else is cheating yourself out of the chance to go to a great school, especially if you think you've got an interesting background. I'd put money on the statement that there are plenty of people at the nation's top dental schools with those stats. The stats didn't get them in; the rest of their application did. Remember that when you're putting everything together.

Hmm i think he was trying to help you out with your choices so you dont waste money. Dont need to be a smartass about it.

I honestly wouldnt waste my money on these schools either but i guess they can be your reach schools. I mean your applying to the top 3 dental schools for stats wise. You have a very good chance of getting into dental schools but i wouldnt count on those three.

I wasn't being a smartass.. I was actually asking him what schools he applied to.
I know that tone of voice doesn't come off on the forums so I understand that you could've read it like that.

Haha my bad then, your right tone doesnt come across in a text.

Maybe add if your looking for more schools:
University of Louisville School of Dentistry
University of Michigan

And University of Illinois at Chicago is a pretty big reach school also. I think they only accepted 12 applicants who are out of state.

Ah man that's a big bummer 🙁
So many schools that don't accept OOS makes me a sad panda
