Pretty sure you have to re-flag.Not sure this is correct. They say on the blog that you have to reflag a topic for the questions to be updated. Just did this for a bunch of step 2 topics and began seeing a bunch of new questions.
Yup, need to re-flag for Step 2 topics. Customer service told me that a while back.
But not for Step 1 topics?
I don't think that's the case with the Step 1 content. I have seen new study questions pop up on my questions for the day when I hadn't even flagged any new topics, and they were definitely new questions.
Heh, no. I'm just constantly surprised that people ask these questions here instead of talking to customer support.I mean, part of what supposedly makes Firecracker so great is the fact that it's continuously being updated and refined. But If I'm expected to unflag and reflag all my topics all the time in order to take advantage of updated content, that's...asking rather a lot. And since they were so specific about the Step 2 improvements requiring unflagging/reflagging, I'm hopeful that it's not necessary for Step 1 content.
For those that used FC throughout m1/m2, how many topics were you trying to flag on a daily basis?
For those that used FC throughout m1/m2, how many topics were you trying to flag on a daily basis?
I never looked at is as number of topics flagged per day. Once you get going, it's more about how many review questions you do daily while trying to flag as much as you can in addition to that. The goal would obviously be to get all M1 material flagged before M2 starts.
Since the review questions add up quickly, was there a particular number you decided to do on a daily basis along with classes.

85 percent flagged doing about 7-8 topics per day. I always aimed for about 5 and I'm probably 50 topics away from being done because I'm going to leave a good portion of anatomy/behavioral science/ and embryology unflagged until I get closer to my test date (a little over a year from now haha)

Is anyone else having an issue with the new app syncing with the online site? I switch around a lot and I find myself doing the same questions when I do...
Wow, I've never heard of anything like that. Even from people that hit 100%.
What kind of score do you have? And how many questions do you get/do a day of review?
Ciao everyone,
I posted a while back a way to tweak keyboard shortcuts with AutoHotkey so that the keyboard shortcut I choose enters a score and automatically goes to the next question. 1 click.
I've been busy with my first year of med school, but now I'm back at it and this time I tweaked the script so that it ONLY works when the Firecracker page is open, and it works for any browser, but it won't affect the other browser tabs, since I find myself googling a lot, and I need a full keyboard to search for info at the same time as I'm doing my questions.
1) Install AutoHotkey
2) Right click on the icon and "edit this script"
3) Paste the following:
SetTitleMatchMode, 2
#IfWinActive, Firecracker
h::Send {1} {Enter}
j::Send {2} {Enter}
k::Send {3} {Enter}
l::Send {4} {Enter}
Space::s
return
4) Save script and right-click "reload script"
-- 1 click selects a score, saves the score, and automatically goes to the next question
-- You can edit the script and use any letter-number combination you'd like.
-- The space bar shows/hides the answer
-- The code only activates when you have the Firecracker page open, on any browser, and disables when you're on any other tab/webpage
This way when I do my daily questions I'm just clicking.... space... k... space... l... space ..k ...space... etc.
That's it!
Just thought I'd add my experience with Firecracker: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...d-scores-thread.1044910/page-76#post-15505046

Firecracker was worth it
Good luck to all the MS1/2's. There are definitely alternative options, but FC certainly isn't a waste of your time if you do it either.
I'm an MS2 new to FC. I was wondering if you guys had any insight into whether its better at this point to flag all the subjects I've previously learned, or to flag a few master them and flag more as I go. When I flag all the subjects I have learned so far it gives me a ridiculous about of questions to do today (~5000). Just seems like I wont remember much half way through that massive amount.
@WhovianDOI am about to start MS2 and I am new to firecracker. I was wondering if anyone who started at the beginning of MS2 has a daily schedule in terms of how many topics to do in order to finish it all or any suggestions in how to use firecracker throughout the year.
Congrats on the 265! I just started MS2 and I did not finish flagging everything from MS1 🙂(). Any advice on how I should move forward with FC? Try to continue banking MS1 stuff along with MS2 stuff? Or just let the MS1 stuff go unbanked...
@WhovianDO
Seems like you guys for the most part have a similar question. You have to just try to set your own schedule. It's been mentioned a couple times in this thread, just set a target completion date for yourself, figure out how many days or weeks that is from today and then divide by how many topics you have left.
I also started in the summer as you guys are. I think I flagged all of Immunology, ~30 topics in Biochem, half of Embryology, and I had bought Clinical Microbiology made Ridiculously simple and read the first 2 chapters, so I also flagged the general Micro info since I was comfortable with it.
During the year the system I finally settled on was do questions in the morning, go to classes/study, then sometime in the evening flag a few topics that I had been studying. In an ideal world, you'd be able to flag everything relevant to your classes in that week, but at times you will fall off, or at other times it may be a little overbearing to try to handle too much. I think normally my goal was somewhere between 30-50 topics flagged per week. I only finished with 1000 topics flagged though, so clearly there were many weeks where I wasn't getting the job done. There are other who post here who have gotten through it completely, it is very doable if you're diligent.
Find a happy medium of flagging both. However, at this point I would transition more towards flagging MS2 material. It makes FC a more efficient use of your time as it won't just be a long term step-prep tool, but an extra study tool for your courses. That's in addition to the fact that the step will be more MS2 weighted anyway. This isn't to say MS1 content isn't still very important, just that if you had to give preference to 1 over the other, then MS2 stuff would be more high yield IMO to get done first. In the end you should try to flag everything anyway, so you might as well do it in a fashion that lets you profit from it the most.

I don't recall having much embryo on my exam, but I know that whenever I got embryo questions on qbanks I typically got them right, even when the user average for the question was fairly low. It can be annoying to flag those topics with a crapload of questions, especially in something like embryo. At the same time, some of them aren't as bad as they seem, because quite a few of the questions ask virtually the same thing.Did you find embryo useful? I swear some of those topics seemed pretty low yield with 40+ questions.
Thanks! I think I remember reading somewhere that you didn't start FC until MS2, but you still managed to bank all of MS1 info? How did you handle doing all that?
Yohimbine is a non-FDA approved drug that blocks presynaptic alpha-2-adrenergic receptors, resulting in increased cholinergic and decreased adrenergic tone, and has also been used in the management of erectile dysfunction.
Nice, thanks. Also useful for M2s who didn't flag anatomy and don't want to flag everything.For the M1s that may be reading:

I'm curious about how you guys are using FC. How many questions/day are you all doing during the semester along with classes? And how long does that typically take you?
~75% banked, ~80-150q's/day. Question load is relatively low since I haven't been adding stuff as quickly over the summer. Generally spend 20-45 minutes per day in the morning before I start my other work. During the rougher parts of M1 I was averaging 300/day which was usually 1-1.5 hrs. My global average is still a bit under 200/day, which I think is an accurate representation of what to expect if you're doing it along with class.I'm curious about how you guys are using FC. I know many kids who paid for the program, fell behind, and then complained about how FC "didn't work" for them. It's worth being honest with yourself about whether or not you're willing to put in the daily time before you shell out the money.
How do you keep your questions/day that low with that level of content?
~95% mastery keeps things at a manageable number. I'm probably a little more generous with my scoring than some, depending on the topic. I also banked pretty aggressively during M1 (~60-65% banked by the end) so a lot of that stuff I've seen many many times already.

Also very much agree with @DrEnderW that FC is not worth it unless you stick to it consistently. Nice. Only 25% banked and I have about 60-100 questions per day. Going to start getting aggressive with it this week.
