I'm looking for a book that is similar to First Aid, but more high yield. I basically want a book listing the things you ABSOLUTELY need to know about the basic sciences, and nothing else. An overview that I can use to grasp the big picture before I dig into First Aid.

Is that so?
I haven't studied pathology yet - is it really all-embracing? Seems strange.

These three seem interesting:

USMLE Secrets
USMLE Buzzwords
PreTest High Yield Basic Science

But I'm not sure if any of them fit my needs. Anyone know?

First Aid is the single best resource for Step 1. It is the most concise and highest yield of any other book I've encountered for Step 1.

Yes, I know, but it's too detailed for what I'm looking for. I'm gonna go through First Aid as well but I want an even more concise review that I can REALLY commit to long-term memory, and remember "forever".

Basically I'm looking for a book with only the most important concepts and facts of the basic sciences you need to know to call yourself a doctor, I guess.

Long term memory is based off foundation and true understanding. No review book can replace that and FA is as good as it gets for Step 1. Step 1 secrets may be good for a very HY review for a day or two before the test though.

What you need is to look in their own backyard of the FA family and check this awesome and fantastic book called: FA for the Basic Sciences Organ Systems
2009 First edition, but if you still are not happy you can try FA for the Basic Sciences General Principles, these two books are gold ,this is my opinion,I have studied Medicine in Bolivia and basically I am going to read these 2 books in addition to the regular FA 2010,unless I wait for the new edition FA 2011 that is coming out on December.
The other book that you want to consider is Ste Up to usmle step 1 fourth edition.😉😉

I didn't really like the FA for the Basic Sciences books. They are just overly detailed versions of FA for the USMLE Step 1. They'd probably be helpful if you want more details on a specific topic, but I felt they weren't as high yield for Step 1. That's just my opinion though, they may fit other people's learning styles better than they did mine.
