Hello, I'm a freshman biochem major.
I got my first ever B in gen chem. I tried my best, but I made a lot of stupid mistakes on the exam, so I ended up with a very high B. I'm so sad that my 4.0 gpa is gone forever and I'm worried about my chances for med school. I'm not gonna give up, but I feel really sad. I'd appreciate if any of you could give kind words... if it's not too much to ask for.. thanks in advance..

You do not need a 4.0 GPA to get into a medical school.

A perfect DPA is like virginity. There's always an appropriate time to lose it.
I didn't and won't lose my virginity before marriage because I know it's against my religion. So I don't think that analogy can apply to me...

Well technically there's still a "right time"...

Anyways, a distinct minority of medical school applicants have an actual 4.0. As you implied, the line between a low A and a high B is often very small, the difference of one or two questions on an exam where one of your classmates happened to guess right and you happened to guess wrong. This is out of your control; what you can control is how you study. If you focus on the process of how you maximize your studying rather than each individual resulting grade, you're likely to wind up with a GPA that ultimately makes you competitive for medical school.

Some adcom members actually like to see a GPA < 4.0 as it demonstrates a lack of perfectionism which can be difficult to deal with in a medical student. Learning how to bounce back from a disappointment or a difficulty is an important skill to hone while in college as it will serve you well in life.

(humor) I think I may have mentioned a story about a dental student who was so fraught for getting their first-ever B+ in a dental school course after having a perfect undergrad GPA. We had to stop them from jumping out of the window of their basement-level apartment. Person runs a lucrative multimillion dollar orthodontics practice. (/humor)
