I thought I would start a thread so we can be up to date on which schools are notifying students for interviews and what we have handed in thus far in ERAS.

I'll start:

I applied to 25 schools handing in my CAF and board scores.

2 interviews so far at Maimonides and Temple (said they will make me the official invite when they receive the dean's letter, but from what I have handed in so far, they would like to meet with me)

How soon after you applied did they respond?

No one else wants to post where they have gotten any interviews so far?

Submitted app (CAF, boards, PS) on 9/15. No interviews yet. Applied mostly to Texas programs; however, I did apply to a couple of competitive programs on East/West coast (UCSF, Stanford, MGH, BI, Duke) just for fun. My numbers-Step 1- 246 (99), AOA.

On a different note, I know several people applying to Fam Med who submitted one night, and got interview offers the next am! Good luck to all of you.

I got another one to Albert Einstein in Philly.

Does anyone know if/when Univ North Carolina will be downloading info? Got an interview at Wake Forest the other day.

Hey curiousdoc -

Could you post the interview dates offered by Temple in their email?
Thanks

Temple Interview Dates are

Friday: 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 12/5, 12/12/, 12/19
1/9, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30

Tuesday: 11/25 and 1/6

Thursday: 1/15, 1/22

Just heard from U Michigan. Does anyone know anything first hand about this program?

Previously I had heard from Wash U.

They don't even have my transcript. I don't know what the hold up is at my school.

I know people in the UofM program or who have already gone through it, and the impression I've gotten is that its a very solid program where you'll be expected to work quite hard. I've heard doctors and even nurses admit that it's a rather uptight, competitive place to work, but on the flip side, everyone is very dedicated. Ann Arbor is a wonderful little city as far as the midwest goes and with the kind of feel you get in Berkeley, less SF, the wonderful weather, and pacific ocean...😛

Hi

I got 4 interview calls so far, from Monmouth Medical center, NJ; Jersey Shore, NJ; St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center NY and Brooklyn Hospital center program, NY. I applied on 9/15 as well. I am still waiting for some interview calls from one of the bigger programs, hope I get them soon!

Anyone can tell me how good St. Vincent Cath Med center is? I'd appreciate any feedback.

Seet.

Got an interview friday from UT Southwestern. My application had been in for a couple of weeks but just sent my letters in last week. They don't have transcript or dean's letter yet.

So far I have 7 -

Temple
Albert Einstein in Philly
RWJ
RWJ -Camden
Seton Hall (St. Michael's)
North Shore
Maimondes

Hoping for more this week, since I just submitted 2 LORs and my Personal Statement!

For me , 4 interviews so far....

UT Soutwestern, Dallas
Temple University, Philadelphia
Albert Einstein Medical Center, Phil
Henry Ford, Detroit

.......

I also got an interview today for U of Michigan (my first). Again, none of my letters, including my school's IM dept. letters, are in yet. One of my writers finally submitted one last week. Hopefully more offers will gradually trickle in as the letters are uploaded.

🙂

i got albert einstein, temple, univ of pittsburgh, lutheran general and allegheny general

Cleveland Clinic today, UTSW last week, hope more are rolling in.

Yep, Cleveland Clinic for a prelim year. Who in the world is working this late at night to send these invites out?

I got UCSF/Fresno 2 wks ago, UCI <1 wk ago

Cleveland Clinc today. Anyone want to share what they know about this program? Is this an interview that you want to go on for sure? I have Wash U and U of Michigan to schedule also. Have not heard from any of the big NE programs that I would like to attend. File is slow to be completed. Still only 2 letters of rec. IM Dean is out of the country!!!!! School has not uploaded my transcript yet. Will take Step 2 next week. $$$$$$$$$$$

Not that you guys probably care about these programs, but I got requests from Cleveland Clinic, Case Western (Metro), Indiana U, and SIU.
Still waiting to hear from the 1st tier schools (1.5 wks ago). Anybody get an email from Northwestern or Mayo yet?

Getting a bit nervous that a 234, AOA, and Honors in 5 out of 7 clerkships don't impress the big name programs...unless of course you have research experience or publications. 😕

LOL........LOL.......I love people like this......

Ahem.......

"I submititted my application 5 mins ago and have not heard back from any top ranking programs yet.......Do you guys think the fact that I am AOA have a 280 on my boards got honors on everything 1st-3rd year will get me in if I only developed an AIDS vaccine without being able to find a cure?"

Alright, point taken...😀
Just getting nervous since it seems like quite a few people already got interviews at the programs I'm applying to. But I'll make a note of my sphincter tone and try to relax.

Ganked one from Baylor today. Pretty nice to see that they offer to pay for a night of Marriots just for me to interview there.

I'm in the same boat. My ERAS application has been in for 2 weeks, with just CAF, USMLE 1 & 2, PS, and 1 LOR in. I've got interviews at Cleveland Clinic (2 days ago) and Indiana (today), but have heard nothing yet from U of Minn, U of Mich, or Mayo yet.

Have many people heard back from Mayo already?

You guys need to take some valium and chill man, before I put a rectal tube in y'all. 🙂 Many of these programs wont even interview until they get the dean's letter in (which I would imagine to include some high-end programs), which is another MONTH. I mean, only some programs invite before the letter, and only the more clear-cut good candidates. Why get worked up on something you can't control? Plus, dude - It's ONLY been 2 weeks. If by the middle of November you still haven't heard, then I'd start to worry.

BTW, from my experience, Indiana is supposedly a big sleeper in the midwest. According to my faculty advisor (the IM clerkship coordinator at a top medical school), he thought that despite its relative anonymity and not on the coast, IU's training program is actually quite good, and trained many solid IM attendings at my institution. As with CCF, probably because of its location, they have some IMG's in the program, but that doesn't really detract from the quality of education, except bragging rights among programs.

At my summer program at Mayo, I met a terrific female GI doc who I'm pretty sure did her residency at Indiana (subsequently getting a Mayo fellowship, which must have been extremely competitive). So it sounds like a good midwest program. 🙂

Having gone through this last year, I can tell you that most of the big-name programs wait until after the Dean's letter is released, and some (MGH, etc) will wait until LATE November and early December to send out invites, so don't freak. If I can be of any help, feel free to ask Q's or send me a PM.

Could you tell me what you know about Jersey Shore University Medical Center? Im assuming you're referring to the one from the Meridian Network right? What are the possibilities of fellowships after? Anyone else who has info or opinions on Jersey Shore...please throw some this way. Take care.

Went to med school at IU and were it not for family reasons, I would have stayed at IU for my residency. Excellent hospital set up (four hospitals-- VA, Methodist, Wishard [county hospital] and IU hospital). Program director is great, teaching excellent; you work hard but they really train some fantastic clinicians and place people well when it comes time for fellowships. I would definitely recommend people look into IU's program seriously. Hell, Indianapolis is actually a pretty decent town-- I lived there for 10 years and it grew on me. I like it better than St. Louis which is where I am now...

I was on consult service with a fellow who just graduted from UT-SW Parkland's IM program. Incidentally, our attending also graduated from that IM program 15-20 years ago. So for a while, I heard the name "Parkland" q4h. On that service, they were talking about how hard they work your at Parkland since it is a county hosptial and residents have to do everything (I imagine that the 80-hr work week have cut into that already). They also bragged how Bellevue is nothing compared to Parkland. They say that Parkland prepares you clinically for anything.

However, the attending, who is now focused mostly on basic science research with little clinical duty, did feel that some of the clinical training was probably "wasted" on him. Also, he did admit that it does not matter what program you go. Just as along as it has good reputation, sometimes you do not have to be masochistic just to get the bragging right of having gone through some hardcore programs.

So which programs do not work you hard? It seems that every one does. however, which programs really have that "hard-core" reputation? Just curious....

Already looking to live the high life, heh? The fact of the manner is, fellowship is hard work, make absolutely no mistake about it. While 80 hours a week applies to residents (or so they want to make you to believe), it dont apply to fellows. Last 2 months when I was on specialty consult service, the 1st yr fellows on service easily clocked in 100+ a week. And ability to work hard is factored into the selection factor for fellowships. Usually hard-working residents become hard-working fellows, and residency that make you work hard also help you get fellowships.

There may be some noted exceptions, but many of the top-end academic programs (such as MGH, hopkins, Duke, Parkland) have previous reputation of working their residents hard. But according to my IM chairman and PD, they'd expect this to improve with 80hr rule, as they tighten their control. The 80 hour rule is made to eliminate the malignant component if there is one, not to make residency cush.

Hi
Got a couple more interviews as well, one from New Cook County Hospital Chicago, and another from Albert Einstein (Jacobi) program. I would appreciated any feedback on the Alb Einst Jacobi Program.

I was referring to the Jersey Shore one from the Meridian Network. I don't know too much of the fellowship possibilites, but the program has some decent extra benefits. My brother interivewed there last year and he said it was fairly good, strong primary care component. Since I'm an international grad, I doubt whether I help you out too much....I was rather hoping someone gave me some feedback!

Where else have you been scheduled to interivew?

First offer!

UCSF prelim by email today. Won't hold my breath they only take 5 total. I should say that one of my letters was from their dept faculty so that may explain the pre-dean's letter invite.

Good luck to everyone--

Hey Vitamin,
I haven't really heard too much about this program. Some of the stuff posted in this forum suggests to me that it's not all that strong of a program though. My PD suggested that I applied there since I was interested in staying in the area (it's about 2 hrs from where I live).

My PD told me they have a fairly strong cardiology fellowship...pretty much all I know besides that the hospital is gorgeous.

Heard from Duke this week also.

I heard from Thomas Jefferson yesterday.
