First name basis with any professors?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My students are too respectful of us to do that.

Years ago, one of my students lived around the corner from me, and her kid was the same age as my son. They went to pre-school together, played together shared the same day-care provider. Once, when I was dropping my son off at pre-school, she was also their and I told her "look, over here, off campus, we're neighbors and fellow parents. You can call me [my first name].

She still couldn't do it and it was always "Dr Goro", when we met off campus.

It's like calling your parents by their first names.

If undergrad count, I kept in touch with my English prof, and after my graduation we call each other on a first name basis. But that's AFTER graduation.

A few-- ones that I've kept in touch with after pre-clinical years because we like each other personally, AND that told me to use their first name now-- and it's STILL weird for me.

Once you graduate and they are your peer. Until then nahh
