I got my first rejection letter the other day from Case which came to me as quite a surprise. My stats are well above their average and my DAT is a little low, but average. DAT AA 18/ PAT 18 GPA 3.5/ Science 3.7. Research for 2 years, working in a dental office 2 years, and over 2000 hours of community service. I expected this from some of the more difficult dental schools but not Case.

They have a lotta interviews lined up...I know when I scheduled for an interview 2 weeks ago they were already in early Nov.

That's a surprise to me as well! When did you submit your app? Do you have a bachelors? What did they say is the reason? That just doesn't make any sense. YOu have wonderful stats and you will most definitely get into another school! Good Luck to you...

Do you have any sections on the DAT that are 15 or lower? Most schools have a minimum of 15 in all sections. Some have minimums of 16. I have a hard time beleving that you just got a rejection for no reason. I have friends that have interviewed this year with academic averages of 17 at CASE and your GPA is fine. Good luck!

I'm going to have my bachelors in the Fall. One thing that might have been my downfall was my QR. I lost 10 minutes of my QR because my screen froze and it had to be rebooted and they said the time could not be recovered. They said they would write a report but that didn't do me any good at the time so as a result I scored a 13 in QR. Had I scored what I was averaging which was 17-18 I would have been in the 19-20 AA range which pisses me off. I have an interview at Indiana already so I'm not too concerned about it.

It is strange that they would flat out reject somebody with all that experience...did you notify them that you would retake? Most schools I believe would interview you if you retake and score a better QR...this would help alot. I did terrible on the QR...so I'm just waiting to hear from schools...and of course I will retake in late September. UF already told me I have to retake...UMDNJ seems to not care, as I have an interview already with them. The admissions process is really random. 🙁

It could have been your low QR score as schools often do have cut-offs. I'm sorry to hear about your rejection, but don't let it get you down. I had a couple of them myself and I was still able to pick from several programs. Hang in there! 👍

Did you really lose 10 minutes? When i took the DAT a little more than a year ago, the computer crashed during the natural science section and had to be rebooted . once rebooted, i picked up where i left off w/o losing any time at all.

It goes to show you that there really aren't any "easy" dental schools. You said you would expect a rejection from some more difficult schools, but your stats weren't that bad.

A 18/18 and a 3.5 GPA isn't terrible. But, getting into dental school is getting tougher and tougher.

I have personally talked to one of the main people involved in the admissions and he told me that because they have over-accepted 5 applicants over the limit this year that they will be a little more stringent in choosing applicants for interview and issuing acceptances for the 2006 cycle so that this problem will not occur again.

it's not that bad, i got my rejection letter 3 weeks ago from case, exactly one week after they cashed my check...I have a 2.98 overall gpa and I believe Case is one of those schools that have a cut off at 3.0 gpa.

I don't think Case has a cutoff of 3.0 because i know atleast one person who got an interview with case this year and had a science and overall gpa of just under 3.0.

I also got rejection letter from Univ of IOWA last friday. They said it was due to the dramatically increase of score among the applicants this year. It really made me nervous. My GPA is 3.9 (Science 3.9) and DAT(AA:19 PAT:22). I'm thinking about retaking DAT cause my RC is 15 👎. But I have no time to study again DAT in this semester. I just hope to get interview without retaking DAT.....

It disgusts me that you got rejected with a 3.9 and 19/22. I guess some schools are just too damn lazy to look beyond one silly score and see the bigger picture. Oh well, you'll get into many dental schools. Good luck.

I have an interview at Iowa, and i have a 4.0 GPA , DAT 19:19:19
However, I got a 14 on the QR section. It might make a difference where your poor score is at. I would think QR would be the one that wouldnt count as much.
