By not great I mean 3.67, and only because I had a really ****ty writing professor who dole out random grades to random students (one kid who showed up to a total of 3 classes got a 98, whereas I, a model student, got an 85. I've taken AP writing classes in high school and am a published author).

I'm in an accelerated 7 year program and the minimum GPA to be in it is a 3.5 so I'm not kicked out of my program, but damn near close to it. The dental school I'd be going to is Temple, and I know the average GPA for Temple is around 3.5.

I was aiming for a 4.0 obviously but will this hurt my GPA? This dumb writing class was the only reason I didn't get the 4.0, and is there a way to explain why I got this GPA to Temple? I already have my foot in the door because of the program, but I'm pissed.

The other upperclassmen in my same program all got into Temple in December, but they all had 4.0's their first two semesters at my university.

Also take all of what I just said with a grain of salt because I'm just really angry with my professor and I'm angry-writing this.

Hey there!
I go to temple too. I'm currently a junior. My first semester, I got a 3.91 and entered the accelerated dental program as well. However, my second semester freshman year, I got a B- in bio 1, and ended up with a 3.58 GPA. Sure, I was devastated. But I worked by butt off since then. Now, I have a 3.90. I decided to drop the accelerated program because of career interest conflicts, but I am still going into dental. I'll be applying this summer.

Long story short, my GPA dipped much lower than yours. If I brought it up, you should to. You really should be more upbeat. You sound like you have anger problems. Mature up. You can do this. Opting out of the accelerated program helped me boost my GPA and helped me get back on track. It wouldn't hurt if you did the same. This is something you need to think about yourself. Think long and hard.

Is angry writing to the world a good, mature response when it comes to such a minor event? How will you react to a REAL stressor? Yes, this is not a REAL stressor.

Your reaction to the grade is a much bigger indicator than the grade itself. Listen to what @Scumbag_Steve is telling you, we've been engaged in many threads for a while and I can tell you that he is 100% right in this situation because he knows his stuff.

Also it is very important that if you keep up this mindset of comparing yourself to 4.0 classmates, and ranting to the world about a B and how unfair it is, you will have a VERY stressful time in dental school. It will come as a major shock to you. I can't tell you how many 4.0 students I know that fell into a deep depression when they realize they are not 4.0 students anymore in dental school.

Also, as I'm sure you've noticed by now, Steven is much more diplomatic than I am. But we are essentially telling you very similar things.

OK I knew I remembered you from before! I'm actually very disappointed now. I hate to do this (believe me, I really do).
But why do you say the minimum is 3.5, when:
Okay, I probably should have explained the program I got in. It's a 3+4 program where I do a condensed version of the biology program and have a guaranteed interview so long as I keep my GPA above a 3.4 and get a DAT AA score of 20 or more. I would go through the application like a normal student and apply to the DMD program during the first semester of my junior yr of undergrad. It gives me an edge over others because I've shown qualifications since high school, and save a crap ton on application fees and hotel+air fares for interviews. Plus I save a year of undergrad.

This only lets me apply to Temple's dental school a year early, no others.

And then....

Thanks!

Yeah, the GPA is 3.3 minimum, and DAT is 20 minimum. I'll definitely keep that in mind, I don't want to take this opportunity for granted and slack off after I got this far lol

I know you are worried about your future, and that's ok. But I promise you will be ok. I recommend a few OTHER changes though, because dental students have a term for classmates like yourself.

I truly wish you the best of luck, and feel free to ASK for help on this site; use it as a resource. There is never a shortage of people who want the best for one another here and are willing to help.
