I'm a D1 currently starting up the second semester. I did my undergrad in my home state, but moved basically across the country for dental school. I thought I wanted to get out of my home state (after having lived there most of my life) and that's part of why I chose this school. That still holds true, but after going home for winter break, I am getting very homesick. I didn't really feel homesick during 1st semester just because everything was new/exciting, but now I am just starting to dread classes and miss my family and friends like CRAZY. Like cry-myself-to-sleep crazy. Ugh...is anyone else experiencing these 2nd semester blues?? It's just scaring me for the next several years...idk what to do to feel happy about being back at school again 🙁

That happened to me a little bit in undergrad... it's natural to feel that way if you haven't had to be away from your family before. Don't worry, the feelings will pass as you start to get back to class.

Relax , call your family and friends and tell them. Don't worry it is only 3 yrs more. You can do it , your peeps are still there waiting for you.

Get a girl friend or if your a girl get a bf

You have time to think your D1?!?!

Lucky.

I did pretty much the same thing - moving across the country because I thought I wanted to live elsewhere. I hope your experience is different from mine, because I have basically been homesick for 4 years. The good news is that you get really busy and the time goes by pretty fast. Make some friends, have some fun, get a pet, join a gym - whatever it takes to get you to the goal line. Remember that in the grand scheme of things, this is a short time in your life. If I can get through it, you can get through it. GL!

I'll be starting dental school in the fall and I have to admit that I'm a little nervous about getting homesick... Moving from Pennsylvania to Nevada is going to be a huggeeeee change (one that I think I'm ready for!), but seeing my family/friends only two or three times a year is going to be different. My undergrad was only about a 2 hour drive away from home... pretty soon I'll be in a different time zone 😱 oh well.. it's only for a couple years.. then I can move back home or wherever I'd like to for that matter!

I moved just about the same distance so yeah it can be kinda rough sometimes. However I will admit that the past few days I've been feeling a lot better, now that classes are picking up again and such. I also am taking a little mini-vacation (by train) this weekend to visit some friends that are 1 state over, so making sure to reward yourself for hard work is important 🙂 I just remind myself that I'm at a great school and like you said, I can move back home when I'm an actual practicing dentist! It's a good thing to get out of your comfort zone, it just can be scary at times (like how I was feeling when I wrote this post originally). Our first semester actually went by really quickly so I'm sure the same thing will happen soon enough this semester!

Ease off the trigger a bit, internet rookie.

One of us is the rook for sure.

" Private messages
I was trying to reply to a private message and after hitting 'send' it just brought me back to my inbox. Should my reply show up in the 'Sent" folder, because it is not.

I tried creating a new message to the same person, and after hitting send, same thing.

How am I to know it actually was sent?"

No harm in correcting some grammar.

There is a check-box on the bottom of the send page that will allow you to keep a copy in your sent box, as well as other options.

There is no harm in correcting some grammar, as long as there is a grammatical error to correct.

Now it is a complete sentence.

There are no hard feelings on this end.

I can definitely empathize with the OP, I am from Canada and my dental school is in Australia!! Talk about being far away from home.
