How important is a “fitted” suit? If I have a suit combo that’s not exactly fitted but is not baggy either, would that be ok?

Just be sure you're comfortable wearing it. That's the main thing really.

You can post a picture. Just make sure your face/your room doesn’t show which could give you away.

So I have a suit combo at home, it’s a little big on me, but nothing that’s baggy. Also, when buttoned, it’s fits really well and is comfortable. I’m over here looking at suits and their prices rn and I’m think “damn I’m not tryna pay $100-$200 (for the cheapest suits) if I don’t have to.” I also really like the quality of my suit

Is that OK @LizzyM @Moko @Catalystik

Just make sure the length and sleeves aren’t too long. If it is, take to a tailor and see how much it would cost to fix it up.

Just get it tailored - a suit is an investment, if taken care of, it will last longer than $15 t-shirts than you go through every couple years

What’s considered too long? With the suit fully buttoned, the sleeve falls to just above my knuckles. But when I’m moving my arms like when I’m giving a handshake, I can obviously maneuver my arm so fhat my entire hand is showing if that makes sense

You’re gonna eventually need a suit anyways, so might as well just get a nice one now, at least that’s what I did.

Way too long. Macy's has some cheap ones on sale for around $75, make sure it fits. With sleeves that long, I wonder how the rest of it fits, might not be worth tailoring. Shoulders are the most important fit, as they can't be tailored (well not cheaply).

IMO, a fitted suit is pretty important. You can get any off the rack suit tailored for cheap. Well worth the investment. You will look nice, feel nice, and be more confident

Depending on the size of your hand, that's anywhere between 2 inches and 4 inches too long. You need to take it to a tailor, also so they can look at if the rest of the suit fits well. Based off your understanding of what's appropriate for sleeve length I wouldn't be surprised if other aspects of the suit might need some work to.

I used the same suit jacket for med school, residency, and job interviews. As long as it still looks presentable, it's fine. Get a tailor to tighten things up if needed.

That is way too long. That will look silly with a handshake too.

Just went to the tailor. I was expecting them to use tape measure but they used pins lol. Is that ok or are they rookies lol. They also said that the fitting on my back and shoulders was good.

My wedding dress was measured for alterations in pins (a 1000+ dollar investment)

I just sent my suits in for alterations. I also hesitated to pay extra money for clothing, but I think I justified the cost in my mind when I told myself that med school interviews are once in a life time opportunities and spending more money to look nice (and feel more confident because of this) was worth it. I'm not the type to spend huge amounts of money on clothes (clearance racks are my best friend), but I'm willing to sacrifice for these interviews

Not being a jerk or a weirdo in an interview is more important than having a fitted suit. As long as it fits ok and doesn't have egregious pit stains you should be fine.

While it is important to not look like a bum, it is also important to not look too flashy (i.e. shiny ass slicked back hair, expensive jewelry/watches, visibly expensive anything, really tight suit. ). They key is for your appearance to go unnoticed.

I’ve been hitting the gym twice a day and doing keto to get lean for the interviews. Need to look good in my suit.

I am not ashamed to say I bought an expensive-ass suit. This is from a guy whose entire wardrobe consists of Wal*Mart polos, khakis, and cargo shorts. But I bought a really nice suit and had it fitted to look really nice on me. It is nice, it will make me stand out, but memorable in a non-flashy kind of way. I figured this is an investment in me being pretty for once. I won't wear this suit again until residency interviews (unless I end up at Mayo or their likes, but that is a different topic). Good suit/good fit > good suit/bad fit > bad suit/good fit > bad suit/bad fit > Any rapper at the grammys

Just get a decent suit. A fitted suit has 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% importance. I wore the same suit since college that I got off the rack and I'm 7 years in as an attending. The only fitted suit I bought was for my wedding and that's because my then future wife forced me too.
