I am thinking ahead to interviews here. Lets brainstorm.

I. Job market is always good

II. You get to be your own boss

III. Prestige

IV. Rewarding experience

V. Anatomy rocks (for those who are considering surgery)

Not that you'd say most of these things during the course of an interview, but heck, thats y theres SDN!

1. chicks
2. chicks
3. cars
4. money
5. chicks?

Hahaha it.

In no particular order

1. Problem solving: I like the fact that you have this "mysterious" illness to solve.
2. I love human biology, pathology, physiology..
3. I want to work with kids (but teaching isn't something I'm interested in)
4. Puts food on the table and a roof over my head.
5. Growth: medicine is ever evolving and I'm like this knowledge sponge. woot woot for nerds.

All good premedders know that there are only four possible reasons why to be a doctor: Chicks, money, power, and chicks (given to us by TV's Dr. Cox). This is put in order of importance, and applies to female doctors as well.

1. Be someone's physician.

2. Educate people about their bodies/health.

3. Connect with people; your compassion and understanding will bring someone hope and/or relief on almost a daily basis.

4. Financial security/money/provide for your family.

5. See the good and bad in people, the most beautiful moments and the most horrible--instead of choosing only one or the other like most people; see the truth, and maybe do some real good once or twice.

1. job security, never worry about starving
2. prestige, ppl listen to docs
3. interesting material, see cool stuff
4. chicks
5. income security, never worry about living meagerly

1. I agree with Problem solving... I love the idea of being a clinical detective. Piecing together info about recent experience, pains, other symptoms, genetic tendencies, etc... and then confirming suspicions with tests. I have always been a great problem solver and love this aspect the most.
2. Research.. I am very interested in epidemiology. Doing research makes me happy.
3. Human biology is awesome. The best subject to be doing research on and solving problems about. I did economics research for a while, and it was ok... but doesn't even come close to comparing to medical research.
4. This is a field that will always have funds available to do further research and grow. People care a lot about health and their quality of life.
5. I do not want to sit in an office all day, or get stuck in a heartless cold profession. I want to work with people, families, kids... and I want to be able to establish meaningful relationships with the people I work with.

Also, I want to be a doctor and not a nurse or PA because I would like to have a degree of automony in my work, be able to make the final call, have the most in depth education possible, and be a scientist, not just a care giver.

I'm already a PA. These are my reasons for going to med school:
1. To learn more than I already know and to fill in the gaps in my medical education.
2. To teach. See one, do one, teach one.
3. To have greater autonomy in my medical practice.
4. To earn a higher degree of respect from colleagues (less of a concern with patients).
5. To earn a better income eventually with more flexibility in my earning potential (of course the economics had to come in there somewhere!)

Im not gonna list 5 but my most important reason is to make my patients happy, the smile is the greatest reward .....

You're five reasons have just been stolen, will be used by a person who interviews before you, and will make you seem like you copied him since your interview is after his/her's  :meanie:

2 MAIN REASONS:

1) the need for better health care for disadvantage/poor communities
2) personal/my own susceptibility to cancer/my own mortality

Honestly, this is what everyone will say regardless of reading SDN or not. So dont worry about this. And i will be the grammar police here: "You're = you are" "your = possession of you"

1,2,3,4,5 - It's the only career I'm truly passionate about.

I want to save someone who is choking in a restaurant one day.

And when people are screaming: "is there a doctor here?" I'll make my way to front of room and say, "yes." I'll proceed to save the person's life then hook up with his daughter.

Yup. That is my sincere motive.

1) $
2) $$
3) $$$
4) $$$$
5) $$$$$

jk

1.) What other career is there?
2.) Clinical autonomy
3.) What other career is there?
4.) I want to like going to work, more than I do now
5.) Money
