FL Residency

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help me confirm I will still have FL residency. I grew up in Florida and spent 17 years there, and was a Fl resident all throughout college. However, I went to college in Maryland. If I take a job in Maryland for my gap year and apply during that same year, would I still be considered a Fl resident? Thanks.

It seems like if you're an independent, you'll have to live in Florida for 12 months before the start of classes.

If you're a dependent and your parents live in florida then you're good to go.

An independent student generally includes a person who is at least 24 years old, married, a graduate or professional student, a veteran, a member of the
armed forces, a ward of the court, or someone with legal dependents other than a spouse, pursuant to the United States Department of Education for the purposes of federal financial aid eligibility. There may be limited cases where a person under the age of 24 years old may qualify as an independent student. per UF

Right, the only problem is that an adult college graduate who is living out of state and working full time is generally not considered a legal dependent, and is therefore a resident of the state they are working in, living in, and paying taxes in. Not the state where they grew up, lived before college, and remained a legal resident during college through dependency on their parents. The UF thing excerpted above addressed when someone is trying to qualify as independent, not avoid it!

This isn't even a close call. OP needs to return to FL post graduation in order to be a FL resident when matriculating. OP is a FL resident now, and will be until graduation, but will not be when FL schools check in May 2023 after living in MD for a year after college graduation.
