So I'm making my way through CliffsAP when it occurs to me. Flashcards. And not the Cliff's AP cards. I'm not sure how good those are or the extent of them. I actually did order these but they have yet to arrive??

Anyways.. What I'm getting at here is what if a person made a flashcard for every one of those bolded words in CliffsAP? I mean many of them you obviously already know but nonetheless. I'm talking like write the word and then hit wikipedia up-- read through the whole article and then make a nice little summary of what that word is all about.

I'm thinking this would secure a nice bio score, no? 👍

if you could remember everything, then yes... although it would take forever and a day to make the cards and three times as long to memorize them.

or if you just want the cliff's definitions for the bolded, the ap bio cards do just that... although there still are a ton of them.

I'm taking 4 or 5 months to study for this thing so I have the time. I really could care less about putting all those hours in. Nothing in this world that's worth having comes easy right?

Do you have the AP cards? I'm really just unsure of what they are at this point, I mean they can't possibly cover EVERY bolded word, can they? If they do, than great. But I think I want more than just a definition. And taking the time to make my own cards using wikipedia articles would give me a really deep understanding.. assuming I remember the stuff.

Imagine though.. actually.. possibly understanding biology in its entirety? Who can say they know that? I'm talking about well enough to get a 30. It's a lot of work, yes.. but just imagine the feeling when it's all done.

I have the cards... looked through them a couple times... If not all the bolded, they cover a good majority... by the time you're done with the cards, you might as well have read the book again.

as far as getting a 30 vs a 20 in bio... might be awesome at first, but a couple months later when you realize a 20 would have done the job, you're going to realize that the only thing you really accomplished was wasting 1000hrs of your life that could have been better spent doing something useful.

Unless you're aiming for harvard (or scholarships I suppose), it's entirely useless to score that high... plus, if that's what you want, you'll need to kill ever section, no just bio... not to mention, that even if you knew every bolded word in cliffs inside and out, you still probably won't break 25 in bio.

To each his own.. I think this is a great opportunity to learn anything and everything about science. If it takes thousands of hours to do that then who cares.. What you learn because of it would be well worth it. I've already started on making these cards and just going through all this information.. researching it again.. it all really makes you comprehend it opposed to flat out memorization.

And the 30 was a hypothetical situation. Yes, Cliffs may only grant you a 25 but add to that KBB and Destroyer and I think a 30 is possible. My only goal is to get 20's or higher in each section which should be cake considering the plan I've set out for myself. If I get a few mid to upper 20's than great. If not, no big deal because I just earned a score that would get me to dental school which is all I wanted in the first place. It's always been in me to try and do what it takes to be the best at something no matter what the cost. I'm sure I could study for a month 5 hours a day and get a score which will get me in but for me personally, that's not enough.

I see what you're saying... you actually sound like me 5 months ago... but having gone through the whole process already, I can tell you I regret the overstudying...

the DAT is very basic stuff... if you love knowledge that much, then you should already know it all from undergrad. Cliff's isn't anything outside of general biology, so you sholdn't see anything that you haven't already in the past 2-3 years (or highschool for that matter). You won't be learning even close to "any and everything about science."

On the otherhand, if you went through undergrad and merely memorized bio facts and you think this will help you understand it... then sure, it could be worth it if only to put together what you learned in the classroom.

If you want to look at it another way... doing 5-6 hours a day, the max you'll be able to study in 5 months is probably aroung 1000 hours... If you want 30's, your time would be better spent studying the chems and math since a 30 is far more achievable in those.

but like you said, to each his own.
