hi folks! I'm applying to medical schools now and am wondering about schools that offer so called 'flexible' curriculums. I know that some places offer the opportunity to spread out the basic sciences years over more time, or that there are arrangements where basically students pay the same amount of tuition but take more time to complete their classes.

I am wondering if anyone has ever taken this option and if so, how do you think it has worked out for you? I'm guessing that students with documented learning disabilities or with complicated family arrangements generally have the option to spread out their courses... but should the average student consider it? What if one were to have a baby during medical school, is this still an option?

I'm basically jsut wondering how these flexible curriculum arrangements work out. thanks for any insight you might offer!

my school brags about how flexible it is during 3rd and 4th year. We do 52 weeks of required clerkships, have 24 weeks of electives, and *26 weeks of free time*. From what I know, you could literally do over 6 months of research/foreign electives/away rotations/whatever if you wanted to.
