forgive me if you've already stated this, but so are you a reapplicant???
Yep. Got branded with the big "R"; although I'm technically only a reapplicant at USF. Made a dumb move last time and only applied there; was on their waiting list for months. Technically, I was never formally rejected or told the "bad news"; not sure if I was supposed to receive any such notification. Had to find out the hard way when the POM class started and I was still waiting for phone calls from REL. Anyways, no hard feelings. Hopefully, this year I'll have better chances. I did more volunteer work and EC's which to their estimation was lacking in my application; even though I volunteered, did research, shadowed, etc. like everyone else. Now that I'm applying broadly, I hope to hear better news this year. Word to the wise, med school rejection is horrible, but don't let it prevent you from doing what you want in life.
I am a freshmen and I already have nightmares about the process. I sometimes can't sleep at night just thinking about it. 😱

Same thing happened to me and Miami, except my problem last year was the MCAT. That problem is solved now.
hey good luck tomorrow! Miami interviews are really very chill for the most part, they really make you feel welcome. Don't lose sleep tonight worrying about it, especially since you are a cane already and have ties to the city and the university.

FSU interview 9/28
My invite drought is over!
Miami interview!!! 😍
I had my interview yesterday. The interview went okay. After last year, I am not speculating anything. The tour was awesome. There are SO many opportunities in clinical and other areas at the Miller School of Medicine that it is almost overwhelming. There are so much optional stuff that can get you clinical exposure very early in your med student career. The students seem pretty cool too. It seems like a collegial athmosphere in which everyone helps everyone.

I hope you get in because I know how much you wantd to go there last year.![]()
Thanks. When/if I get an invite from USF, I may go to that one whether i get accepted or not. Hopefully I run into you up there. 🙂
Miami interview!!! 😍
It that happens, we can meet up for dinner that night or something on me. 😀
Is Miami your top choice since you are a Umiami student already?
on the secondary it says choose campus: Miami_____, Boca_____, No preference_____
Yep, Miami is my top choice.
yea, select no preference for both, and if ur a good applicant i think they offer you two seperate interviews, one at each campus
Team Zissou is right. I put no preference and I was offered two separate interviews.
The one problem with early interviews is the fact you've got to wait it out until mid October to find out the results (let alone wait lists, ugh). Good luck to all this year.

So for USF's app, what did anyone put for "previous college activities"? 😕
All the application says is "Please list information about your previous college activities.".... very vague. I have worked my way through school, so I do not have as many activities as other people, and the ones I do have, I listed on my AMCAS. So should I put anything? Also, I am freaking out because I haven't submitted any of my Florida secondary apps yet!! If anyone wants to offer some encouragement, that would be great 🙂
I believe they told a couple different people I know, both here on SDN and off SDN not to repeat things on AMCAS. Hence if everything is on AMCAS you can refer them to AMCAS. But perhaps you might want to call Dr. Gretchen Koehler the interim director of admissions. Her number is 974-2229
An area code might help. 😉
We had someone this year accepted about a week or so into POM, so the call can come at anytime even into the school year (though not that far in). Good luck with your applications this year, apply broadly, and nothing can stop you if you have the interest and drive for it.
Why the heck does AMCAS has this rule that October 15 is the earlest day for regular MD decisions.
If any of you are accepted to the University of Florida COM- you can join the facebook group for the class of 2012. 🙂
Search: University of Florida College of Medicine Class of 2012
So far there is only one member.
Good luck to all!!!
hahaha, that's pretty early. but nice job.
I'm a current UF COM student, by the way the acceptance rate after interviewing is pretty high, something like 350 students interviewed, 220 accepts i think.
my two cents--as long as you don't inappropriately touch your interviewer (unless asked of course) you should get in, but you may have to wait until march to hear.
If you completely rock your interview, ie knowing how to test the function of the spinal accessory nerve if you have dr. romrell as your interviewer, you might hear back within a week.
Hint, if you get asked that question just shrug your shoulders and yell you're not the boss of me.

That's good to hear. Typically I think that's what interviews should be (and are) like.![]()
When my friend interviewed at UF last year (She's now an MS 1 like you) they just made it conversational. She's indian like me so the surgeon just talked conversationally to her about bollywood and indian culture since he was fascinated by it.
That's good to hear. Typically I think that's what interviews should be (and are) like.
BTW, if you're thinking about/applying to UF this cycle--for all my 6 weeks of experience is worth, I really think this is a fantastic place to learn medicine/meet a great group of people. Feel free to message me if you have questions.
Hope to see some of you on interviews. Good luck to all!
complete at usf, um, and uf, anyone know the usual turnaround on their committee decisions?
Well, I don't have a thing against your guju, so don't worry 😉Yeah I remember your case cuz I was on the fl. threads and remember Zeke and that other guy who hated me always asking if you got off the waitlist every few weeks.
That guy I think had a thing against me. Whatever though. its not like I have to deal with him.
Goodluck to you.
Medguy83,
CONGRATS on the FSU invite. Good luck this year. I know someone else at USF who got low tier waitlisted last year at USF and got an FSU invite this year but didn't hear back last year. An indian friend of mine who is in the masters program with me this year.
He's hoping for more interviews too but right now thankful that he has at least one so far.
Well, I don't have a thing against your guju, so don't worry 😉
Sorry I haven't been around lately, I have to remember to surf SDN, lord knows, I'm not studying all the time...hehe.
What's up peeps? Questions about Miami? Ask away...
