forgive me if you've already stated this, but so are you a reapplicant???

Yep. Got branded with the big "R"; although I'm technically only a reapplicant at USF. Made a dumb move last time and only applied there; was on their waiting list for months. Technically, I was never formally rejected or told the "bad news"; not sure if I was supposed to receive any such notification. Had to find out the hard way when the POM class started and I was still waiting for phone calls from REL. Anyways, no hard feelings. Hopefully, this year I'll have better chances. I did more volunteer work and EC's which to their estimation was lacking in my application; even though I volunteered, did research, shadowed, etc. like everyone else. Now that I'm applying broadly, I hope to hear better news this year. Word to the wise, med school rejection is horrible, but don't let it prevent you from doing what you want in life.

Same thing happened to me and Miami, except my problem last year was the MCAT. That problem is solved now.

I am a freshmen and I already have nightmares about the process. I sometimes can't sleep at night just thinking about it. 😱

like gujudoc said just take it one day at a time. there's no need to stress yourself over about it that much as a freshman. just take it day by day, activity by activity, semester by semester and next thing you know you'll be applying to and then starting med school. you just have to keep focused on whats immediately in front of you and you will be a doc before you know it. its crazy how the time will fly. :luck:

hey good luck tomorrow! Miami interviews are really very chill for the most part, they really make you feel welcome. Don't lose sleep tonight worrying about it, especially since you are a cane already and have ties to the city and the university.

Oh yeah, I interviewed last year. Hinkley is an awesome guy. Agnes is the best too.

To the UM interview invites and acceptances; when were you complete and when did you hear about interview invites? I was complete A WHILE AGO. I graduated from FAU last year and thought I had a solid shot, at least for an interview, but, have heard ... Silence! Thanks and congratulations to all of the accepted!

Miami interview!!! 😍

FSU interview 9/28 :hardy:

My invite drought is over!

Yeah I remember your case cuz I was on the fl. threads and remember Zeke and that other guy who hated me always asking if you got off the waitlist every few weeks.

That guy I think had a thing against me. Whatever though. its not like I have to deal with him.

Goodluck to you.

Medguy83,

CONGRATS on the FSU invite. Good luck this year. I know someone else at USF who got low tier waitlisted last year at USF and got an FSU invite this year but didn't hear back last year. An indian friend of mine who is in the masters program with me this year.

He's hoping for more interviews too but right now thankful that he has at least one so far.

My invite drought is over!

Like I said in my post above, Congrats!!! I have another friend with your exact outcome. Almost similar stats to yours though not as awesome ECs as yours. Applied late last year and got low tier waitlist at USF. He just got an FSU invite recently as well. I think both you and he will get more interviews.

Do you want me to delete the post I quoted of yours from the previous page which has the link to your mdapps profile? I get the feeling from the fact that it is not in your profile or under your username means that it is not something you want to publicly advertise for anonimity's sake.

Miami interview!!! 😍

Congratulations!

It seems like the ball is rolling for SDNers. 3 people recently got new invites or have an interview coming up real soon.

I had my interview yesterday. The interview went okay. After last year, I am not speculating anything. The tour was awesome. There are SO many opportunities in clinical and other areas at the Miller School of Medicine that it is almost overwhelming. There are so much optional stuff that can get you clinical exposure very early in your med student career. The students seem pretty cool too. It seems like a collegial athmosphere in which everyone helps everyone.

I hope you get in because I know how much you wantd to go there last year. :luck:

Thanks. When/if I get an invite from USF, I may go to that one whether i get accepted or not. Hopefully I run into you up there. 🙂

It that happens, we can meet up for dinner that night or something on me. 😀

Is Miami your top choice since you are a Umiami student already?

Miami interview!!! 😍

your profile rocks!!!!!!! You will get in many places this year!!!!!!! I wouldnt be surprised if your alma mater gave an interview to you this year.

BTW for you or Greg or anyone who can answer: for Miami, do you have to pick one or the other? how do you go about making it clear that you want to apply to both campuses?

on the secondary it says choose campus: Miami_____, Boca_____, No preference_____

Yep, Miami is my top choice.

So would you check No preference if you wanted a chance to interview at both? Sorry if it is a stupid question.

Yep, Miami is my top choice.

Cool. Well g'luck. Oh and if you someone else can answer my question that I just posted back to Team zissou that would be awesome. Thanks 😀

yea, select no preference for both, and if ur a good applicant i think they offer you two seperate interviews, one at each campus

Team Zissou is right. I put no preference and I was offered two separate interviews.

The one problem with early interviews is the fact you've got to wait it out until mid October to find out the results (let alone wait lists, ugh). Good luck to all this year.

Cool thanks. Yeah I was asking for someone I know at USF. She just submitted the app today.

Yeah but it seems most people on here don't have their interviews until Oct anyhow. 😉 What about you?? When's your interview??

do usf and uf send u emails when you are complete?? and for miami, can u email for a status check or do u ahve to call?

Yeah USF and UF send you emails when you're complete. For Miami, you can call them between 2-4pm and check your status. I'm complete at UF and USF but for some reason Miami still hasn't gotten my LORs that I sent electronically through Interfolio on 8/31/07. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm trying not to freak out, but Miami is my top choice so I wanted to be ahead of the game.

cool, thanks for the quick response... id call miami tommorow and ask them about ur LORs.. it seems like they should have recieved them already.

We had someone this year accepted about a week or so into POM, so the call can come at anytime even into the school year (though not that far in). Good luck with your applications this year, apply broadly, and nothing can stop you if you have the interest and drive for it.

So for USF's app, what did anyone put for "previous college activities"? 😕
All the application says is "Please list information about your previous college activities.".... very vague. I have worked my way through school, so I do not have as many activities as other people, and the ones I do have, I listed on my AMCAS. So should I put anything? Also, I am freaking out because I haven't submitted any of my Florida secondary apps yet!! If anyone wants to offer some encouragement, that would be great 🙂

I believe they told a couple different people I know, both here on SDN and off SDN not to repeat things on AMCAS. Hence if everything is on AMCAS you can refer them to AMCAS. But perhaps you might want to call Dr. Gretchen Koehler the interim director of admissions. Her number is 974-2229

An area code might help. 😉

hahaha yeah I thought about that and then got lazy and figured they knew it was (813), but for those who don't know Tampa area code, (813)974-2229 is the full number.

Truee!!! Hope your test grade turned out how you wanted it to be for molecular med.

We had our first grad exam for the masters in molecular med and I kicked butt. I'm excited. 😀

I hope you did well enough at least near the B average though an A would be awesome. I have heard that Molecular Medicine is tough but most people even among those who have to repeat first year usually pass that class and have their real troubles with gross anat or physiology.

Why the heck does AMCAS has this rule that October 15 is the earlest day for regular MD decisions?

Why the heck does AMCAS has this rule that October 15 is the earlest day for regular MD decisions.

That's an interesting question. It is odd considering not all schools are rolling. Maybe it is to make sure that the EDP schools have the EDP situation squared away before they give regular seat acceptances. Not really sure though as to why they have such rules.

If any of you are accepted to the University of Florida COM- you can join the facebook group for the class of 2012. 🙂

Search: University of Florida College of Medicine Class of 2012

So far there is only one member.

Good luck to all!!!

hahaha, that's pretty early. but nice job.

I'm a current UF COM student, by the way the acceptance rate after interviewing is pretty high, something like 350 students interviewed, 220 accepts i think.

my two cents--as long as you don't inappropriately touch your interviewer (unless asked of course) you should get in, but you may have to wait until march to hear.
If you completely rock your interview, ie knowing how to test the function of the spinal accessory nerve if you have dr. romrell as your interviewer, you might hear back within a week.

Hint, if you get asked that question just shrug your shoulders and yell you're not the boss of me.

When my friend interviewed at UF last year (She's now an MS 1 like you) they just made it conversational. She's indian like me so the surgeon just talked conversationally to her about bollywood and indian culture since he was fascinated by it.

That's good to hear. Typically I think that's what interviews should be (and are) like.

BTW, if you're thinking about/applying to UF this cycle--for all my 6 weeks of experience is worth, I really think this is a fantastic place to learn medicine/meet a great group of people. Feel free to message me if you have questions.

Hope to see some of you on interviews. Good luck to all!

Thanks for the offer. I am applying to med schools after I do my masters this year. i'm sure there are many that will take you up on your offer though.

complete at usf, um, and uf, anyone know the usual turnaround on their committee decisions?

Hi. I am sure this has been done plenty of times before, but could someone highlight the strengths and weaknesses of USF, UF and UM's programs? Such as why one person would choose USF over UF and UM or UM over USF and UF, etc. If this question has been answered before could someone post a link? Thanks!
