I'm sure it happens... but I don't know anyone who has not been put on hold first at UF. I really don't know how some of these schools make their decisions..... Has anyone on here been accepted at UF this year? If so, may I ask what your stats were?

I just interviewed there, and of the 20 of us that were interviewed, they said 5-10 will get acceptance letters immediately and the rest will be put on hold. So they certainly do hand out acceptances without putting on hold. But the majority of their matriculants are people who were originally on hold because those who were issued immediate acceptances are prolly the better candidates and thus end up going elsewhere.

how were the interviews at uf? are they intense, relaxed, in between?? thanks 😀

Totally relaxed. They really just want to get to know you as a person it seems.

When are we supposed to get decisions by, I thought it was today, although I know they said it was going to be backed up?

They said they were gonna meet on Tuesday, and then send out snail mail letters on Wednesday. So I would imagine it will be at least Saturday until you actually get the letter.

That's what I thought, but I had heard in the past that if you were accepted right away, that you would receive a phone call, which is how those on the "Acceptance Thread" found out. Maybe we're in for a long wait ... and I thought my interviews went really well. If thats the case, its alright though, at least they made it known it might take till March. Good luck.

Just got into UF! So excited!

From my understanding, UF makes three major acceptance surges, October, December, and April (with April being the biggest) - this is followed by the Alternate list. For the October acceptances, the acceptees found out via snail mail that week of the 15th, but I believe some received calls on the 15th itself with some good news.

At least, this is what I got from the interview early this cycle.

Congrats Tertbutyl 👍

Maybe I will see you there. 😀

If you do get accepted right away, one of your interviewer may call you to give you the news if he/she is excited about your acceptance. You will get a snail mail on Friday or Saturday... and yes it is a big white envelop😀 asking you for the $200 and congratulating you of course👍

Congratulations T-butyl, of course I have to ask the obligatory, how did you find out, phone call or snail mail?

Anyone on this thread get accepted to UF without a phone call?

Because if not, I guess that doesn't bode well for me...

A week like this (substitute FSU invite Tues, Miami invite Thurs & UF invite Friday) would be worth a human life...

From the incessant calls I've been making to USF, they give me reason to believe they're sitting on a juicy stack of apps that have been scored and await interview invites...Hopefully this is the week 🙂 ...(*Sigh* God I'm so sick of saying that every week)

I keep hearing you all say that you call the schools to find out about your application...but when you get an email from the school stating, "you are complete and there is no need to contact us..." why do you still keep calling? what do you ask for?? and why would the lady that answers the phone know what the admin committee thinks about your application? I am not asking these questions to be rude...I seriously need to know the answers.

It is true for the most part that invites/acceptances, etc. are pretty much out of our hands once we have completed files. However, I have heard several accounts of applicants who, having received no invites as late as Feb., started calling the admissions dept. and before long they were interviewed and subsequently accepted. I know the majority of people on here would say that calling, sending LOIs, etc. does little to sway the adcoms' decisions, but I refuse to believe there is no transference of info between the admissions dept. and the committee. This isn't to say that one should pester the school's admissions director, but I think you can both let the school know how serious you are and glean some info regarding where you stand in terms of interviews/accptances by calling.

Side note: +pissed+ another wednesday with no phone calls!! Here's what I'm wondering: since USF will probably stop interviewing some time after Dec. 17 until around the 14th of Jan, invites for Jan. would have to be done before Christmas break right? so maybe there's still hope of hearing something before then. I'm just so disappointed right now. Another stupid waitlist with FSU and now silence from practically everywhere else. From the looks of it SoFlaKnight hasn't gotten any love from USF either. Waiting sucks; especially when your family buys you Harrison's principles of IM as a birthday gift. Thanks mom and dad; wish I had an acceptance to go along with it.

I haven't heard anything from USF either, and I have already gotten interviews from both UF and Miami. So I'm guessing they're just swamped with apps...

Congratulations T-butyl, of course I have to ask the obligatory, how did you find out, phone call or snail mail?

I was not contacted by the admissions office, but rather one of my interviewers. I still can't believe it! I interviewed on Friday, so I am still waiting for the snail mail letter.

Guess that means I should be expectin the small envelope since nobody's contacted me.

Go back a few pages and Mike posted something about the exact days when they stop interviews for Dec. and exact start up date for Jan. Good luck. Do hang in there. A lot of people I know currently at USF didn't get the interviews til late spring.

To name a few: Soccer885, Lifetimedoc, a few current 3rd years (at least 4 of whom I know) didn't get interviewed until Jan. through March some time. One of those you know for sure but the other 3 I don't know if you know.

My point is its tough but wait it out and update with any new activities of work or volunteer things or stuff of that nature.

CGuy, I think we're in the same boat, but someone told me that whether or not you get a phone call, is completely up to your interviewer. Call it blind faith or wishful thinking, but I'm still hoping for the BIG ENVELOPE. By the way, Missing Person's Report for USF College of Medicine invites???

I was resigned to the fact that I was gonna be put on hold, but now you've instilled some hope back in me...and it's killing me! LOL...I'm so anxious. I hate the waiting...

👍invite from einstein this morning..there is hope for fl residents at OOS schools!

True, I'm on my way to eastern virginia pretty soon. Good luck on your UF interview tomorrow, its really low stress, just be yourself and have fun.

Congrats with Einstein! I just returned from there and it was really laid back. If anybody has any questions about it PM me. And during my interview I was the only FL resident in the group, it seemed everbody else was either from California or Pennsylvania. I don't think there was any applicant from NY in my group.

Just got done checking my email and I am on hold with University of Maryland. In a really bizarre way I am content with that, because I don't have to get on a plane for a while.

Hey good luck team zissou! I am sure you will do great on your uf interview.

No love so far from any of the Florida schools. At least I have an OOS interview at Rochester, NY in January. Need that to go great as I am a re-applicant for the FL schools. 😱

just got back from uf.. i was reallly impressed.. hopefully ill hear some good news next week😕 did neone who interviewd last week hear back yet?

Not yet. I'm guessing it'll be in the mail today. But I suspect it will be bad news since no one has e-mailed or called me.

it could still be good news..i was told they only send letters for acceptances/alternate list, no emails. They also said if your interviewer wants he/she can call you during the week to let you know you got in.

Post-interview Hold, It hurt, really bad.

Sorry Swamp. I'm afraid to go check my mail because I think I'll have the same fate. Guess I'll go check it soon...

Hmm...haven't gotten anything yet. Guess I'll just have to wait till Monday...

Since grading policies appear to be an important factor in making a decision where to go, does anyone know what the grading policy is at each of the 4 FL schools? I understand theres Pass/Fail, but isnt there still some internal ranking?

Yes, I interviewed last Friday (the 9th) and I was notified by my interviewer over the week and I got my acceptance letter in the mail today!

I'm not sure about the other schools, but USF grading is Honors, Pass with Commendation, Pass, and Fail. H, PC, and P can be +/-, for example H+ or H-. Fail is <70%. Ranking is done internally by your final overall %. Each class is worth differently based on how many contact hours there were and thus each class affects your overall class rank differently. Clinical years are also graded the same way, but the grading is mostly subjective based on your attending/resident evaluations. I'm sure they do the same at most other schools.

I believe UF has a grading system like undergrad (A, B, C,) and in some classes, if too many people make really high scores, it is P/F.
Also, some classes like ethics I understand are Pass/Fail. However, I do not know how they grade clinicals.

I apologize if this has been asked recently, but does anyone know if Miami or USF will give out interview invitations this week (Monday or Tuesday before Thanksgiving break)?

Someone recently posted this link which I found very useful.

How does USF invite you for interviews? i got an email from them today saying "Hey call me back quick!" but by the time I got the email the person who wrote me was out of the office. . .

and i don't want to wait till tomorrow to find out what that's about.
