never hurts to get started early SOMETIME THIS WEEK umiami, miami campus gets back to me, im hopin for da best!!!!!!!!!!##################😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱 😱

I'm not sure that Miami interviews for the waitlist... 🙂 I think if you interview in March then it could be likely, but I heard they aren't full just yet.

I can comment on this some. A few years back, i had a classmate who was interviewing and interviewed at the main Miami campus around mid to late Februrary sometime. Most of her interviews were in spring and late spring because her MCAT score wasn't very high. At every single interview, FSU, USF, and UMiami they told her that they still had seats open at their individual schools even though it is quite full. In other words, not every seat was filled. Her interview at UMiami was around mid to late Feb. and she ended up getting in even without the intermediate of a waitlist position. UMiami was her top choice and she is currently a 3rd year there now.

So I'd go to the interview esp. if it is your only interview because a Feb. interview doesn't mean that you are necessarily screwed. At Miami there is a 3/4 chance of acceptance when interviewing too. Keep that in mind, granted that includes waitlistees.

Hey, thanks!

I wanted to add something else. You should interview at all schools you get invites from unless you know for sure the school you are accepted at are your absolutely number one choice. Why?? Because you may find that you like another school better and may end up wanting to go there more then the other school you got accepted at.

Good luck nervousned!

I had a friend who interviewed in March several years ago and he was accepted immediately after.

He's interviewing at USF!!! He got the call to come for an interview!!! YAY!!!

also, I want to go to UMiami - I'm in love with main campus 🙂 I hope I get in. Still working on an update letter.

I also think it's important to go to all of your interviews. I declined a few interviews myself and I didn't get into a certain school 🙁 and now I am wishing I had went to the interviews I declined. Oh well it's too late now. Hindsight is 20/20.

Talk to Dr. Hinkley and send in updates and a letter of Intent. I think if you show continual interest you might get them to consider putting you higher on the waitlist or switching you over from the FAU campus to the main campus.

I was told that students accepted to both UM campuses must decide on which campus they will attend by feb 28, or a campus will be assigned automatically. So that might open up a few more spots and the adcom will probably have a better picture of how many spots are left at each campus.

Hey, thanks for all the advice everyone, but I have decided not to go to the Miami interview. I am already in at a school that, while not my top choice in the beginning, is definitely my top choice out of all the schools at which I interviewed. I know one's opinion of a school can change a lot on the interview day (that's how it happened with the school I have chosen to attend), but the cost of Miami is too high for me. I can't justify spending $15,000-$20,000 more a year to go to a school that is really far from my friends and family in a town that I'm not that crazy about, and there really isn't anything that could change my mind about that, so I don't see any reason to waste an interview spot. I know I wouldn't rather go to Miami than to the school I've already chosen, even if the interview day were to really impress me. I know Miami is a great school and that many people would choose it over the school I have chosen, but I am happy with my decision because I just don't think Miami is right for me.

Still, thanks for the information about the open spots at Miami. It's important that I factor that kind of stuff into my decision. Good luck everyone who is waiting for an interview/acceptance decision. Thanks for all your advice.

Yes, I was told this as well! 🙂 I was hoping it might free up some spots.

On this note, I'd like to share that on my interview day when Dr. Markowitz was discussing the possibility of acceptance to both campuses, I asked if we could hold both spots until May 15th. I think he was kind of taken aback, assuming that people would know immediately what was for them, but said "I suppose you could". Funny how they had to send out an email to everyone accepted at both campuses that they must choose come February 28th. It appears quite a few people were impressed and are confused.

I'm definitely working on that. I emailed Hinkley a week ago and he still hasn't gotten back to me... He usually does, so I called the office and they said he's been very busy. I dunno? Maybe it's because I asked about letters of intent and he can't say anything about that?

USF is great. They called me today just to update me and say they'd be calling me soon. Nice people at USF med. I'm glad, I think I made the right choice.

Thanks! I was very excited to get the call and I had left my cell phone at home. 150 it was an interesting afternoon.

First I want to say congrats! I was hoping you would get an interview! Just this past week, I was also asked for an interview at USF. When will you be interviewing? Maybe I will have the chance to meet you.

Good luck all.

Rel, Dr. Specter, Dr. Bognar and Dr. Wallach really are the best!!

Hey everyone, I find out if I am in next wednesday! 2/21. This wait is HORRIBLE.

Since there apparently is no second look weekend for miami, I wanted to let you all know that if you are interested in doing an informal second look, send me a pm. Let me know when you are in the miami area and I have no problem with showing people around our campus. I'll give you a tour and you can meet the people in our class and look around the facilities. Our schedule is a bit more forgiving now than in anatomy, so it can be done. 😀

does miami let you know by phone or email or mail? :scared:

Hi TPR, USF called to update you about what? I thought you were already accepted? Are they moving the waitlist?

It was probably info for accepted students that he's talking about. No they haven't taken people off the waitlist yet. Not from what my friends have told me. Are you on the waitlist? If so, what tier? My friend who is on the waitlist said that she was told that the earliest would be anywhere between end of March to May 15th when the official date of dropping multiple acceptances occurs. Good luck

I am on the waitlist. REL has never told me that exactly what tier I am on...he just told me from the beginning that he felt confident (based on year's past) that I would get in ultimately and has given me the mid-May/mid-June timeframe. I assumed that meant I was on the top-tier, but given your friend heard maybe late March...I don't know.

Yikes, I hope I'm not interviewing for a rejection or so far down on the waitlist I never make it off. :scared: Always something to worry about in this process.😱 🙂

No, that won't happen at USF. I know at Miami at some point late in the game like March or April, the class is full and you are interviewing for waitlist spots. Not sure if that is true for USF too. If not, it is possible that you interview on the last day and get an outright acceptance even if others are currently lining up on a waitlist.

Even if you are interviewing for a waitlist spot (which again I don't know how USF works at this stage in the process), USF is always very clear about the fact that you can be one of the first interview dates (like me) and one of the last interview dates - and the later interview date can get off the waitlist sooner, bc the waitlist is ranked. So if your file receives a higher score from the committee than me or someone else currently on the waitlist, you will be pulled off sooner even if you interviewed later.

Don't worry about it...you got the interview, just go and enjoy it, and try to wow them with your story. Hopefully, we can be classmates next year.:luck: When is your interview date?

DrZeke...why'd you change your screen-name? (Assuming you are who I think you are).

Anyways, good luck to everyone!!...don't let the late interviews stop you from going...schools usually have spots open at this time, but even if you ARE interviewing for a "waitlist" spot-it's not the end of the world...many people in med school now got in off of a waitlist, it's just how the grueling process works unfortunately.

If you have any questions about UMiami (Main Campus)-Hurricane95 and I are first years and can answer most questions about the school and surrounding city....just PM us. 🙂

Hahaha you know what I was just discussing something in class with a few friends of mine. The funny thing is that all these politicians talk about helping the underserved and saving the planet from pollution blah blah blah but then they act quite hypocritically. If those same people wanted to help, they could start by using their own money to help those less fortunate then them.
Funny that you should write this Guju....because this is what UM is all about-healthcare equality to all even though UM has to "foot the bill" in MANY instances....these damn politicians try to make it so hard.

P.S. DrZeke, I NEARLY messaged you this past weekend to see if you wanted to go to South Beach with some first years....but my decision to go was made pretty late so I didn't know if you'd get the message. I'm (we are) going out again on March 3rd (2 weeks)...so if you want to go then, message me and we'll make arrangements. 🙂

Edit: though the experience will probably make you lean towards main campus even more...haha.

I'd like to emphasize the bolded portion. Interviewing later does not always mean a bad thing. Actually I found that in the past couple of years those that interviewed earlier got lower positions on the waitlist the those that interviewed later.

The reasoning for this is they don't have many people to compare earlier applicants with while later interviewees are being compared against the others who already interviewed. Most of my friends who interviewed late ended up getting higher tier positions on the waitlist then those that interviewed earlier. They are all now in med school at USF.

By that time USF also has an idea of who might likely drop an acceptance to go somewhere else so they can predict who'll be in.

To 1-accept away,

If he said June then you are either at the bottom of top tier or the top of middle tier waitlist positions.

One of my friends was somewhere either in the middle or bottom of top tier waitlist and got in during June of last year. He's now an MS I. He also interviewed during one of the last interview dates if not the last interview date. Several other MS II's I know also interviewed during some of the last interview dates left when they interviewed and got in around Mid may shortly after the multiple acceptance drop date thing that occurs on May 15th. Some of those people even heard back as early as April end.

So it depends.

Good luck and don't assume that late interview = rejection or low tier waitlist.

Does anyone know where FSU stands on that issue. I have an interview there on Monday. Am I probably interviewing for the waitlist or do they operate like USF?

^ when did FSU call you for the interview? Also, when were you complete?

I believe they haven't filled their class yet.

Any idea how many more interview invites USF and Miami have to give now that we're in the second half of February?

As of yesterday, USF had 7 more interview days. I think they are every Monday. University of Miami interviews through the end of April...and they interview at main campus every Monday and Friday...at Boca Campus every Tuesday and Thursday. Last I heard, earliest available date was 2/26. It definitely would be nice to get an interview at Miami :luck:

Thanks! So I guess til the end of March for USF. 6-7 more interview days I suppose. USF is also filled til the end of Feb or just Miami? I guess that means about 4 more interview dates for USF. Not looking good for me...

Hi TPR, USF called to update you about what? I thought you were already accepted? Are they moving the waitlist?
Just called me to update me in general. Let me know that soon FA and SA would be calling me etc... Yes I am accepted there already, they were just calling to keep me informed on what is happening next which is nice.

FSU puts most people on the waitlist after interviewing. Very few get accepted outright. I believe the waitlist begins to be reviewed in March, as their early orientation is at the beginning of April, with the rest of the waitlist moving after April 16th, as that is the multiple acceptances drop day for them since they begin classes before June 30th.

Out of curiousity, have you decided between FSU and USF where you are going? I saw you said USF was top choice, so are you sure you are going to attend there or are you still debating?

I was a little torn at first, due to some family issues, but I loved USF and liked FSU...so I'm 99.9% sure I'll be going to USF in the fall, unless something drastic changes between now and April.
