Haha this has been an interesting thread... if you're talking about atheletics... well UM does have the edge ... The last few UF / UM football games have been enjoyable to watch - if you're a canes fan. I was at the "miracle comeback" game last time in the orange bowl.... 26 points in one qtr or so lol... I think Jesus of Nazareth was under center for the Canes during the 4th qtr.

As far as med schools go, its trivial - all schools balance out more or less.

Go Canes ;-)

That game hurt my heart. We were supposed to be really, really, really bad that year, not even a winning chance. I'm normally a pessimist when it comes to UF football but I actually thought we could win it since we were ahead by so much. I was wrong, we just handed over the game. Horribly embarrassing defeat.

He is a AW-Rescue Swimmer. The guys hanging from the helicopters during Katrina rescuing people from the roof tops...that was Him!! Unfortunately, the only thing he can do in Miami is listen to sonar the entire day to listen for submarines...he thinks it's exciting though...but there isn't a base in Miami and the only places he can be a rescue swimmer are Jacksonville, San Diego, Norfolk, or Japan....so it doesn't look promising...but we'll see what comes our way. He gets out of the Navy after my first year (he'll be overseas the entire first year) and then he'll move down there...hence the reason I don't want to go to the FAU campus...too much moving!

He's looking forward to being a trophy husband...he's planning on sitting in front of our big house in a country club...in a lawn chair with his feet in a kiddie pool, in his houserobe, with a flyswatter and beer. I hope the neighbors have a sense of humor!! ....Oh, I forgot the bullhorn!

And no...my fiance is not white trash...haha.

Agreed! I never had an issue with UF until they started acting better than everyone else. I'm sorry, you are not the "Harvard of the South!" I actually had a fellow interviewee (?) tell me that he specifically didn't want to go to UF after interviewing there and sitting through a presentation where everything was a chart showing how UF was better than School X.

On a side note, anyone think its funny that junebug doesn't want to write the word pissed (e.g. writes p*ssed). June, we're not gonna tell your Mom. its ok to say pissed. j/k 😉

NICELY DONE Runner!!

I would definitely have to agree with Deuist and Burns. Gators turn everything into a competition!!...I guess they feel they have to prove something...like a short man with a big truck!

I was in Publix a few days before New Years grocery shopping, minding my own business and this CRAZY MAN came up screaming at me "GO GATORRRRSSSS" (of course he only had 2 teeth), because I was wearing an U of Iowa sweatshirt (my fiance went there). I didn't even REALIZE they were playing each other until that moment! Come on gators...have a little more class!

That's more of the Gainesville folks than the UF students. The ACR's (Alachua County Residents) are a bunch of hicks who were graced with the presence of such a wonderful university. If you want classless fans, look no further than UTennessee or UMiami.

anyone know when UF will be accepting the bulk number people off the waitlist? is it sometime in march?

March or April at the earliest.

Hey McMD: rescue swimmer, eh? That's pretty awesome. Here I am, sitting at my desk at work counting down the hours until I get to go home and counting down the days until I get to quit, and people are out there jumping out of helicopters and rescuing people? I gotta say that's really cool, and I respect him a lot. I really hope you get off the Jackson campus waitlist, but being at Boca wouldn't be too bad.

How is everyone doing? Runner, are you feeling better about med school? I just cancelled an interview and I hate doing that because I'm afraid that I'm passing up a school I might really like...I just don't feel like traveling anymore and I'm not that excited about it though maybe I should be? And my apartment flooded this weekend. That's about it from my end.

yrodri, it seems the love affair between Ricky Williams and the Dolphins is over yet again. If you need to talk about it, I'm here for you.

Agh. If someone offered you millions and millions of dollars to not smoke pot, would you really choose the pot? Stupid, stupid man. Probably smokes too much pot.

Hi Burnsie,

That's just awful about your apt! Was it really bad? I'm so sorry to hear about that. And don't worry about canceling the interview--I really think that by this time next year, we'll all be like, "why did we spend so much time worrying where we would attend?"

As for my "cold feet," I'm pretty much over it I think. I've kinda come to the conclusion that medicine is my calling. While I LOVE studying constitutional law, politics, etc., I think that if I were to make it my profession, then some of my enjoyment would dissipate. (I think its kinda like when we were younger, and let's say you were really good at a sport, and so everyone told you to join the team....and then once you did, it wasn't really fun anymore).

Moreover, if I were to decide that I really really really wanted to pursue that path, I could always do law school at night when I was established in my practice (whereas, I couldn't do law school now, and then med school at night or something later on). Plus, plenty of physicians are active in politics (heck, the highest ranking senator is a physician!).

I'm really glad you feel better about med school now; I think it's completely natural to get cold feet about something regarding your future career...actually, I would be worried if you or anyone else didn't worry at least a little. For me, I feel confident I'll enjoy what I'm doing but I really really like my sleep and when I don't get enough of it for several days in a row I am not the most pleasant person. So, I'm most worried that losing I'll be losing so much sleep and working so many hours that it might not seem worth it (at least while I'm going through it). And you're totally right, you can easily stay involved in politics on the side, even if it's not in an official capacity.

haha yeah, my apartment is fine, thanks. The upstairs was pretty bad and the downstairs got hit a bit because water was coming through the light sockets/lights/fire alarm, but we managed to get buckets underneath pretty fast so not too much water damage occurred downstairs. We currently have some of the carpet ripped up with fans blowing to dry it, and the toilet upstairs needs complete replacing (the back of the toilet fell off, apparently), but it's cool. Could've been a lot worse. I was just, you know, making conversation.

In other news, C. Everett Coop should really consider shaving the goatee he's sporting in the LifeAlert commercials.

I interviewed back on February 13th ... do you think I still have a decent shot of avoiding the waitlist?

I don't know. If you don't hear anything within three weeks of your interview, assume that you've been waitlisted. The good news is that most people get off the waitlist. Miami ends up accepting nearly 75% of the applicants it interviews. The bad news is that you might have to wait until June to finally get the thick envelope.

I remember going through orientation and thinking, "I'm a fraud! I can't believe they let me in here." Fortunately, med school is more intimidating than it is difficult. Also, the professors and the administration will help you every step of the way. They believed that you were good enough to accept you; they think that you can do the work.

He's always rockin that thing. In fact, for years I thought he was from the late 19th century because I had only seen him in pictures. Imagine my surprise when I found out he was a contemporary.

That was rivalled only by the several months I had only ever seen "Kim Jong Il" in print on cnn.com where the typeface made it look like Kim Jong 2 because the "i" and the "l" look exactly the same. Luckily I never made that mistake verbally.

I have problems.

Before the interview day adjourned, Dr. Hinckley told us all that we'd be hearing back on March 15th. Not sure if that's good or bad. Guess I'll worry about the waitlist if and when it does happen. Personally, I'd rather be subjected to ancient Chinese torture methods :scared:

You girls crack me up.

Ah MrBurns, I appreciate your supportive side. Yes, Ricky Williams.. what is there to say about him that hasn't already been said? I cannot believe how stupid he can be... I mean, come on! His career is screwed now.. maybe he could always end up playing for the raiders.

Hey, inflames, don't worry, you have an excellent shot - here, have this quote, perhaps it'll make you feel better.

"Death be not proud, though some have called thee Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so. For, those, whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow. Die not, poor death, nor yet canst thou kill me." - Chuck Norris, Episode 032 of Texas Ranger.

Thank You.

Good lord, I have no idea what you are talking about. While that's nothing out of the ordinary, I'm now wondering if there is something wrong with me because I'm out of the Kim Jong Il loop. My self-worth has come into question for the 23480934879 time today.

As far as LifeAlert goes, did you notice that their website was www.911seniors.com/10? I don't get it...are there 9 previous 911seniors.com domain names that they had to add the 10? Why isn't it just www.LifeAlert.com? And most importantly, why do I care so much?

Speaking of ol charles, heres a little known fact:

Filming on location for Walker: Texas Ranger, Chuck Norris brought a stillborn baby lamb back to life by giving it a prolonged beard rub. Shortly after the farm animal sprang back to life and a crowd had gathered, Chuck Norris roundhouse kicked the animal, breaking its neck, to remind the crew once more that Chuck giveth, and the good Chuck, he taketh away.

Nice...Dr. Mike. Don't worry Burns...I have no idea what unfrozencaveman is talking about either, I hope I'm not getting old at the ripe age of 22. And referring to your comment about my fiance's kicka*s job....that's the reason I previosly referred to his coming along with me to medical school as "dragging." The most exciting thing at my job is when all the people with their PhD's fight over who's right....I'd be ready and willing to move anywhere. And although he's ready and willing to move, I just feel bad for taking him from a job where he jumps out of helo's to a job where the most excitement is when the paper clips get all jumbled together. (I hate when that happens!)

Inflames...you interviewed a week ago...you're still golden!

Oh I forgot, what happened to you apt???

does anyone know how many interviews fsu is giving out this year? 🙂

And by the way, did anyone get an info on parking at UM at their interviews? What we're supposed to do and whatnot?

One student said something about getting on some waitlist for some parking deck. Hope that helps.

Yes, that is invaluable information.

I figured it would be. Maybe Arsenic the Great could chime in.

I just ran out of thin mint girl scout cookies and now I'm sad. Speaking of which, what do girl scouts do when they're not selling cookies?

Just wanted to say hello--is anyone else getting nervous/excited that we're actually kinda close to starting? I'm moving in July which is only ~4 months away!!!

On that note--let's try to break 100 pages for this thread before school starts!

Runner, I added you to my myspace page, since we might be classmates next year...

I heard that as well. If you are definetly going to UM, I would look into doing that now.

I'm going to Europe until mid june, then I'll start looking for a place. I'm thinking I'll be moving to wherever I'm going late july

Oooh yay! Thanks for the add--I love getting friend requests (well from people I know). This is awesome--did you add Yrodi and Kleintj also? They are probable hurricanes as well. I think I might modify my friends section to include a "future UM docs category" lol<----I am such a nerd!

I don't use myspace, but you can feel free to add me to your facebook buddy lists. You'll have to go looking around for my profile though.

I don't have a school e-mail address, so I can't be on facebook 🙁

Haha apparently many people have a myspace account - it would be great to create the UM c/o 2010 group lol...

"[looks at hands] Why do my finnnngerrrrrs looooook like litttttle peopleeee!?"

Ok, so you guys are all intelligent, maybe you can help me out with two things that have been bugging me.

1) Can you recall any example of a "pre-emptive embargo"? Granted, I understand that embargoes are typically enacted in reaction to something, so you can't really have a pre-emptive embargo. Perhaps pre-emptive isn't the correct word. In any case, I'm looking for an example where an embargo was used more as a negotiating tool, as opposed to a consequence. (sorry if that makes no sense)

2) While en route to work today, i began to ponder the mathematical fallacy that IS 5/3 (pronounced fifth third) bank (and their symbol is 5/3). 5/3...this is not fifth third, this is five thirds. What is a fifth third? Are they referring to .2/5? Maybe they mean one fifh of one third...or do they mean one third of one fifth? bottom line, none of these equal 5/3=1.67

1) Try looking into the U.S.'s dealings with communist countries, esp during the cold war.... as a form of financial pressure.

2) wow.

Hey Runner, how did you create that avatar? thats pretty bad ass.

"Bring out ye' dead!!!!! >> I'm not dead!!! <<< "

Tell me...is the ability to watch your favorite football team almost every Sunday a bad way of choosing a med school?

I like yrodri's usage of random quotes at the ends of his posts. Mind if I join you?

"Reagan Smash!"

I put myself on the waitlist for the parking deck in November and still have not gotten a call. When I called they said the wait was at least six months. I would try calling Admissions and asking them for the number. If you have any intention of maybe driving to campus next year I think it would be a good idea! (Although after having a taste of traffic in Miami, I am thinking getting an apartment near the Metro would be smart).

Hey Runner...referring to question #2....I pondered the SAME thing while sitting in front of a red light by the 5/3 Bank!! However, I've been traveling so much I don't remember what city it was in...what city did you see it in?

That's a funny quote, Burns. It would be even funnier if you had actually seen the episode! Ohhhhhhhhhh. Snap.

Ooh, good one, WLG7. I would try to come up with a suitable retort, but now seems like a good time to consummate my secret relationship with the hot guy who works in my lab. I'll get back to you on that later.

"Domino, motherf*cker!" haha what a great movie.
