Man you really do take your penguins seriously, don't you? If I had a pet penguin (which I also dream about, McMD), I would just take showers with it. A little Pantene Pro-V would make that guano smell just disappear! And since I'm going to be showering with my pet sheep anyway, might as well bring in the penguin, too. He'll get used to the hot water.

I know. We've literally discussed everything under the sun. There is now officially no purpose for this thread to exist. I think that some of the posters are not even Floridians. We've been infiltrated.

Hopefully one of you guys might know the answer to this. If you submit a paper to a journal for publication and its accepted, what do you call the paper? Is it called a manuscript? draft?

If you are listing it on your CV, you would list the authors, title, and journal name, and then: "Accepted for Publication." This is in contrast to if you've submitted it but it has not been accepted yet, in which case you would call it "submitted" or "under review." And congrats, Runner. 🙂

I was placed on the Ranked List for a possible interview. I was wondering because a friend of mine got rejected today, and was wondering if they rejected everyone that would not receive an interview today, i thought this because I think USF sent out one mass rejection email for the remaining applicants who would not be schedule for an interview. I was not sure since its near the interviewing season and that person was only on the ranked list for about a week, and now got rejected...

Hi Frany, I was going to say the same thing as FrootLoop. I don't know when Miami's last interview day is, but I hope you weren't getting the April 17th idea from me. When I was invited to interview in the beginning of March, April 17th was the last day offered to me, but that doesn't mean they're not offering interviews beyond that date. Perhaps they just schedule interviews up to a month away....Also, I have heard of people being rejected from the ranked list periodically. I don't think they do mass rejections where all or most rejections go out on the same day. Arsenic posted Dr. Hinkley's answer to a question relates to that point...basically, if I am recalling correctly, Dr. Hinkley said that not every one gets on the ranked list after the evaluation process (if their score is too low) and then from time people are pulled off the bottom of the ranked list (if it doesn't look like they are competitive enough to get an interview). Although the evaluation process takes forever and you can sit on the ranked list for some time, I think UMiami does look over the ranked list periodically. Good luck!

Well, not everything...there are plenty of topics I can think about that run the chance of getting our accounts suspended. For the most part, we've kept this whole thread pretty PG, yet it's still been entertaining. We should be proud!

Yeah, that works. You might want to say what you were acknowledged for though if it was something interesting. Ex: I was recently acknowledged for my help in preparing samples, proofreading the manuscript, and my awesome good looks in a manuscript that has been accepted for publication in _Psychopharmacology_. I only suggest that b/c being "acknowledged" is kind of a nebulous category where the PI didn't feel you had done enough work for an authorship, but if you did a signficant amount of work (and just he didn't think it was signficant enough!), I would tell what it was that you did. Make sense?

Hmm...I wasn't here for the first penguin talk...I didn't know about SDN FORUMS when I started interviewing, only read the interview feedback on SDN....and by the way...is it just me or does it seem like this application process has taken way longer than a year? I was accepted to all my schools early so maybe that's why...but I really feel like my interviews were about 2 years ago....ugh, time is dragging!!

Yeah, I kind of wanted to "hate" USF so I could still be gung-ho about UM, but USF was wonderful.

I have one hesitation about USF, but its minor, and I'm not going to worry about it until I HAVE to worry about it (i.e. get accepted or high spot on WL).

Anyhow, I really don't know where I'll attend if I have a choice btw UM and USF, but I guess I'm leaning a little towards USF. I guess we'll just see what happens....14 more days till I find out (not that I'm counting or anything...)

On my interview day, the head of the admission committee said that more people get accepted to medical school on May 16th and 17th than any other days in the application cycle, so I would say it is a concensus. Now whether or not, there is any waitlist movement before then...I don't now. Maybe you should PM Arsenic so that he could pose the question to Dr. Hinkely...he is the liaison between SDN and Dr. Hinkley. He's very helpful.

Oh and I couldn't use the third one b/c it wasn't cooperating with my software. I thought this one was bold also, so I selected it. More importantly, it has a cool cord attached to it. I'm thinking we should hang the triangle from the ceiling and I can do acrobatics off of the triangle when the instrument isn't needed.

I gotta admit, I don't laugh out loud very often from things I read on here (not that things aren't funny, they're just usually more of an internal giggle), but I did at that picture, or at the very least, at the mental image of you actually playing a triangle that big. Red Tide/'Tide is so kick ass.

And Dakota, as discussed earlier, the kazoo is something people at UF would play. However, there is still an opening for the windchime, a second guitarist, that creepy high-pitched children's piano that always makes you think of haunted children marching down corn fields with their arms stretched out (or is this just me?), and a ribbon dancer to accompany caveman's interpretive dancing. And there soon may be an opening for lead vocalist, as Q might be out of our band as soon as she withdraws from UM (if that is indeed the case).

That is so incredibly awesome. Definitely use it as your avatar. 👍 And don't fall out of the triangle. Maybe you should pick a less sloped shape to play, like a square.
