i can picture mr burns saying "You wanna f*&# with me? Okay. You wanna play rough? Okay. Say hello to my little friend!"

Burnsie,

You go to Duke, right? I'm flying up to Raleigh/Durham next month. Is there anything interesting to do?

haha, ask frozey...we just hung out in the bowling alley parking lot. Well, in all seriousness, there's not an amazing amount to do here but enough if you're not picky. It depends on what you're looking for, of course. If you're looking to shop, there's a really nice, big mall with movie theaters and restaurants. If you want to go to bars or clubs, you'd probably want to head to Raleigh or Chapel Hill (Raleigh is about 30-35 mins from Durham, and CH is about 15-20). There are some bars near Duke's campus, but they're inferior to the ones you'll find elsewhere. If you're in the mood for a baseball game, the Durham Bulls minor league team is quite good and has a nice stadium (cheap tickets, too). And finally, if you're looking to join a gang, north and east Durham offer some fine options.

Let me know if you have any specific questions. What are you in town for?

Visiting a friend of mine before he moves to Cali to do his post-doc. I'm not sure if he's going to be able to take off from work all of the days that I'm there, so I was trying to see what I could do to entertain myself.

By yourself, I would definitely opt for the mall/movies. It's in a good part of town and that's something you can safely do by yourself. The only problem would be transportation, I guess. But if you want to stay on or near campus, there are some small shops and restaurants within walking distance of campus, or maybe he could get you into the gym (which is pretty big and has lots to do, including classes you can just show up and take for an hour). Duke also opened up a new modern art museum on campus...I haven't been, but I hear it's pretty nice. You could also come by my lab and do my work for me. I wouldn't protest.

Speaking of, what are we doing next week? I'm bringing a gun, FYI.

I agree. I got lost the night before when I was doing my "practice run" from the hotel to the school...ended up in the area right NEXT to JMH and let's just say I was scared for my life.

Good luck on the mean streets of Boca Raton, you two. Errant golf balls, rogue Bentleys...

I dont think the Jackson area is that dangerous-- it's just dark and sweaty. And there are tons of chickens running around. But what is santeria without chickens?

Are you good at useless trivia? We could do trivia night at this local Irish pub (featured in Sky Mall, the exclusive airplane magazine) and win a $70 bar tab. Or, if you're feeling really crazy, we could gather a bunch of acorns and throw them at people as they walk past my apartment. And of course there's always the bowling alley.

Hahaha so you've been to Durham before, have you?

If you thought the parking lot of the bowling alley was fun, just wait til you see the parking lot of the ABC store. That is, if you can handle it...

Hey, those drivers are seriously dangerous. You have no idea how rough it's going to be surviving on the mean, mean streets of Boca Raton-y. 😀

In all seriousness, is Deerfield Beach (near Boca) a bad area. When I visited, I stayed with a student who lived in Deerfield, and I thought the area was normal. Since then, however, anytime I mention Deerfield, people tell me to stay away from that area.

That depends on where you live. Deerfield is "dangerous" compared to Boca. But then again, we are talking about Boca. The area you stayed at in Deerfield was off of US-1 and is safe, unless you consider old men hitting on you as a threat to your life. Just look across the street at the condos that line the beach.

Did I meet you when I was down in Boca? How do you know where I stayed? I'm gonna feel so silly if I met you and didn't make the connection.

No, you did not meet me in Boca. I knew where you stayed because only two FAU people live in Deerfield, and both of them are in the same building.

Yeah, Deuist couldn't make the Boca Orientation.

I'm really hoping that I don't get shot up with a golf ball in Boca....I don't think my fiance, dog, and cat could handle the anxiety of knowing they too could get shot up one day!

3rd Page guys, come on, we can do better than this. Happy Easter !!!! Hide the eggs... the messiah is coming....

Somebody needs to post a giant Easter Bunny here!!!!!!!

I'm good at everything. Too bad the gift certificate isn't to Sky Mall magazine. I need a new Hot Diggity Dogger.

Anyway, I prepped for Durham by spending the weekend in Boca Raton. I robbed a Whole Foods, and took some hostages at JCC bingo night. Then I had a Coors Light, for no apparent reason. PS I'm taking that dvd back...

Fine fine, but I'm keeping the foam finger. And if you were prepping for an authentic Durham experience, you would have drank PBR. Probably from a keg. You have so much to learn...

If you think someone from Philadelphia is a stranger to PBR, you are sadly mistaken. Plus I was born in the 70's. I think it was in formula back then.

For all you Johnny Cash fans out there...

So I was thinking today about Jackson, and how this girl at my interview said, "Let's put it this way...Jackson is GREAT if you're a student, but terrible if you're a patient."

Then I started to think of the Johnny Cash song, "Jackson," and realized one line perfectly describes our beloved JMH:

"Well, go on down to Jackson; go ahead and wreck your health."

(yes yes, I realize this is totally lame, but I found it to be cool)

My priority plans for tomorrow morning: go to Wal-Mart and buy Easter candy at half price. I love those Cadbury eggs. 😀

After a valentines day sampling, I'm going to highly endorse the Choxie line from Target. Q, as a Godiva connoisseur, I think you would be impressed.

I don't like cadbury creme eggs, but I LOVE those cadbury mini eggs with the hard shells? Wow. I'm feeling a midnight scoot to walgreens coming on...

I am, actually. I gave a box of those to Burnsie, and ended up eating half of them myself. 👍 They're fantastic. Have you tried the mint ones? Incidentally, how can you NOT like Cadbury cream eggs??? Oh well, more for me. 😀

I'm more of the salty chocolate variety-- Cadbury cream eggs have too much sugar methinks.

I'm on my way Burnsie! And if you think I'm going to do anything but detract from your life, you are sorely mistaken. No boxes of chocolates for you.

Speaking of, did anyone see that Angelina Jolie is having her baby in Namibia? I can officially say that is worse than Jackson.

I wonder if those are the same things that my mom used to get, Q. She used to get these different colored coated egg shaped candies with creme inside it. But I don't know if it is the same thing. I like chocolate candy that is similar to Nestle crunch, meaning it can't be straight chocolate only cuz it needs something else in it for me to eat it.

I also like Lindor creme filled chocolates.

I expect nothing less from you, frozey. I did a late-night kroger run with Q to try and find mint M&Ms (which she later detested), so you and I will have to make a late-night run for mini cadbury eggs. They're my crack.

I don't DETEST them. That's a pretty strong word. 😛 But yeah, I was definitely less enamored of them in comparison to you. Give me peppermint patties, or give me something non-minty. I'm not going to pig out on the mint m and ms. Or, I'll eat the choxies, but only the dark chocolate ones. I'll save the milk chocolate ones for wholelottagame.

Guju, I don't think they're the same thing. The cadbury eggs are chocolate on the outside, and then they can have either cream or even better, caramel inside. OMG, it's making my mouth water.... 😍

I used to really like those peeps as a kid too, but not any more. It's weird how your tastes change as you get older. I don't like eating pure sugar any more. It has to have some fat in it too. 😛 I've never liked jelly beans, and I still don't like them.

Actually, he prefers dark chocolate also. I'll take the milk chocolate ones, thank you very much! (and yes, the choxies were excellent)

I had a good friend in middle school who poured pixie stix sugar onto a packet of 12 peeps, and then proceeded to eat them all in the span of about 2 minutes. I still feel badly for her pancreas.

So I have to ask, because I know we're all wondering about this: is your "good friend" a REAL friend, or an imaginary one???

Contrary to most of my friends, she was actually real. She was one of my "good friends" because we were quite similar in our goofy senses of humor. Not that I would ever eat 12 peeps covered in pixie stix powder in 2 minutes, of course.

I love the vanilla flavored peeps (they came out a couple of years ago)...my mom and I gorge ourselves and eat an entire packet all at once, then neither of us feel good!!

And on the chocolate subject, I'm having a chocolate fountain at my wedding, the chocolate is gourmet chocolate, not the fondue choc. most fountains use, it is simply amazing (white chocolate)...I've already told my guests if they want to congratulate me, meet me at the fountain!....mmmmm...chocolate covered strawberries!! yum!! 😍

In general, I HATE when people buy me candy b/c I won't eat it (if I am having a craving for chocolate, I'll buy a chocolate bar--I don't want someone giving me 3 lbs of candy). So for Easter, my Mom did the CUTEST thing. She made me an Easter basket with all of my favorite snacks (granola, dried fruits, soy crisps, etc). I love her! 😍

As disgusting as this is going to sound.......

When I was in elementary school a neighbor invited me to her birthday party where they gave out pixie sticks, sweet tarts, shock tarts, and smarties. I poured them all into an icecold glass of water and let them slowly melt in there and proceeded to make me a drink out of it.

It was an interesting experience to say the least. :meanie: :meanie:

What can I do to convince you to invite me to your wedding??? 😀

You girls seem awfully passionate about your candy... the joys of estrogen.

I remember the "cool kids" in middle school would snort pixie sticks. Pixie sticks can be considered a "gateway drug," since not surprisingly, most of these kids turned out to future drug users.

Ah, good times.

random question but where are the best places to shop in the miami area for high fashion?

Hmm...buy us everything we don't get off of our registries!! Or be a wedding crasher...wedding crashers *are* welcome!

BTW, we have the cutest wedding favors...we are handing out glass pint glasses with our names, 2 hearts, and the wedding date engraved on them...instead of the cheap jordon almonds wrapped in tulle...I'm in love with our wedding favors! 😍

Ha! You'll be waiting for the rest of your life if you want ME of all people to pay for your kid's education....I am clearly going to spend the rest of my life working on getting my own. :meanie: But I would be more than happy to crash the wedding. Guju, Burnsie, Caveman, Runner, you gals want to come with me? Free chocolate fountains don't become available just whenever, you know. Priorities, girls, priorities. 😀

Hey some of need to be professional students. 😉

Hey guys, back on the safety at jackson subject, does anyone know if it is illegal to um, well, be armed in a hospital (assuming you have a concealed weapons permit of course), and like, uh, leave said weapon in a locker or something (just to carry with you when you leave the building at 11pm or so)? Anyone know what the policy on this is?

Or am I better off just adding kenpo karate to my "to do" list for summer activities? :meanie:

I'm not sure...but on that note, is mace/pepper spray considered a concealed weapon? What about nunchuks?

Probably you could just slip a Chinese star into your purse. Just be careful when you reach your hand in there....
